There was good news for Anthem yesterday, a patch was released. However, the update changed the matchmaking, and now players are complaining that the change is to their disadvantage. There is certainty in this: Anthem does not have a slot at EA Play, the “just before E3-2019” appearance of Electronic Arts.
This is how the change was intended to work: The latest update yesterday changed how matchmaking in Anthem operates, specifically how groups are formed for activities.
In the response section from EA, it states: Players may have to wait longer for certain activities to start.
However, the change was supposed to increase the chances that players can start a game together instead of being thrown into an empty match.
Therefore, BioWare increased the time in which players can fill missions and strongholds with the update. (via answers.com)
Solo GM3 no longer possible
This is how it comes to practice: A player on reddit says that certain, rarely visited activities are now unable to start at all. They want to play a stronghold at Grand Master 3 level and get stuck on an endless loading screen because apparently no one else wants to join.
Previously, they could play the stronghold alone after a while and hope that eventually, another freelancer would join. That person would then see the progress they had made alone and would stay. At the end of a round, they often would have a full group after a short solo game.
This is no longer possible.
They believe that people will now sign up and after 2 minutes of “waiting” simply quit because nothing is happening. Thus, no GM3 strongholds will form for them.
In the comments, several other players agree with the freelancer – they have noticed the problem with other activities as well, such as legendary contracts.
There had already been difficulties lately because the matchmaking of Anthem is based on a large player base, which apparently is no longer given.
What is it with EA Play? Until the last moment, players had hoped that BioWare would present how things would continue with Anthem at EA Play 2019 on Saturday, June 8. Perhaps outline the important event “Cataclysm,” but that won’t happen.
Anthem does not have a slot at EA Play – that slot belongs to games like Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, Apex Legends, and Battlefield V.
This likely means that Anthem will not play a role at E3 2019.
