Many are asking: How many people play Anthem? A fan site for Xbox One has some interesting player numbers. They still do not portray Anthem as a hit, but the title performs significantly better compared to Mass Effect Andromeda and Destiny 2 than previously thought.
These are the numbers we had so far: Regarding Anthem, we mainly had figures from the retail sales in the UK.
It turned out that the sales figures in UK stores were significantly lower than those of Destiny 2 (September 2017) and Mass Effect Andromeda (March 2017).
Although Anthem took the number 1 spot on the charts in its launch week, it sold far fewer units than the two comparison games that launched two years prior.

According to these figures, Anthem only had:
- 25% of the units sold compared to Destiny 2
- And only 50% of the units sold that Mass Effect Andromeda was able to sell
However, these numbers have some flaws:
- The market share of retail sales to digital sales has shifted significantly in recent years.
- Mass Effect and Destiny 2 had a longer launch week

Player numbers for Anthem come from Xbox One fan site
What are these new numbers? The new numbers come from the Xbox One fan site “Trueachievements” – from their Xbox chart.
They state that their numbers are based on a “sample of Xbox players,” evaluating over half a million Xbox players for the chart. The players come from all over the world. These are not just people who registered with them.
So these are still not “official numbers,” but they provide insight into a part of the player base.

What do the new numbers look like?
For these player numbers on Xbox One, it is seen that Anthem as a new brand was able to reach about 65% of the player base that Mass Effect Andromeda reached at its launch.

In comparison to Destiny 2, Anthem had 81% of the player base on launch day, but was only able to build on that base relatively slowly in the first 10 days.
After 10 days, Anthem only had 54% of the player base of Destiny 2 – this could be due to the mediocre initial reviews.

According to the current chart from the site, Anthem is in 3rd place behind Apex Legends and Fortnite – this refers to the last week.
We will keep an eye on the numbers and report as soon as further information is available.
Most companies are very cautious with their player numbers.
