Once again, there are some small but important tidbits of information about the shared-world shooter Anthem. This time it’s about matchmaking in Anthem’s raid variant, the strongholds.
The release of Anthem is approaching. It will be on February 22. Recently, developer Bioware announced the alpha status. New information has now been shared on Twitter.
The strongholds, an endgame activity in Anthem, also support the matchmaking feature. Thus, you can assemble your teams from foreign players.

Stronghold raids support matchmaking
In the endgame of Anthem, there will be raid-like activities. These are called strongholds and differ from the raids that you may know from Destiny according to Bioware.
This is known about the strongholds: The strongholds, or fortresses, will require groups of up to four players and are expected to provide a particularly tough challenge.
As 4-player groups are required for the strongholds, there had already been speculation about a matchmaking feature. This has now been confirmed by Mike Darrah, senior producer at Bioware.
This sets Anthem apart from competitors like Destiny 2, which does not support automatic player searches for the raids.
Will there be raid activities for larger groups? No, there will be no large raids with larger groups available at launch in Anthem. Whether such things will follow in the future remains open.
Matchmaking in Anthem will not give trolls a chance
Players will have several options available for matchmaking to filter out trolls and “griefers” as much as possible.
These are your matchmaking features:
- Players can see when a mission is starting in their own network and can join it
- Matchmaking can automatically fill groups
- The world map indicates if there is currently a mission taking place that one can join
- Players can choose missions based on the same Javelin class
- Matchmaking will offer features to deal with toxic players
Matchmaking is intended to be available for all activities in Anthem.
