In the latest episode of the MeinMMO Podcast, we remember the late loot shooter Anthem. The game had a lot of potential but was ultimately dropped by EA. This should have never happened for the entire gaming landscape.
The release of the loot shooter Anthem was never in a good light from the very beginning. Already in the beta, testers complained about bugs and performance issues, the release then brought bad loot and a lack of endgame content.
It quickly became clear that Anthem would not be the big hit that EA had hoped for. Complaints from players were joined by internal reports about miserable working conditions of the developers and the game lost several project leads.
Despite an initial rescue attempt, EA ultimately dropped the game. A 2.0 version of the game like Final Fantasy XIV never came to fruition.
Leya and Schuhmann look back at the development of Anthem and the slow death of the game, philosophizing about why the loss of Anthem is such a shame for the entire gaming community.
