The action MMO Anthem (PC, PS4, Xbox One) received its first update in 2020. We look at the patch notes for 1.6.2 and what players can expect. Many are asking: Is it worth checking out Anthem again?
This is included in the patch: The most important news is that Anthem has extended the Winter event “The Ice Flood Time” until February.
That means:
- the events in free play
- the weekly strongholds,
- challenges
- and the seasonal store are still active.
Anthem suffers from a lack of content, the events are meant to alleviate that and bring variety to the game.
Additionally, there is now the instance “Mine of the Tyrant” also in the Ice Flood version. It should have functioned as an event instance for a while, but it didn’t due to problems, now it does.

What is the reaction to the patch? Players are asking on Twitter not about the current patch, but about the overall state of the game and when the major overhaul is coming.
Some report after the patch that they have technical problems, Anthem is crashing. EA recommends,
- using the repair function of Origin on PC
- players on PS4 and Xbox One should uninstall and reinstall to solve the problem
Is it worth playing Anthem again?

However, the time may not be ripe for that yet. BioWare is currently, as rumored, working on a major rework, “Anthem Next” or Anthem 2.0. But we don’t know anything concrete about that yet.
The first patch of 2020 focuses on bug fixes and on giving existing players something to do by extending the Winter event.
Players speculate that there could be signs of the “major change” that many are waiting for in Anthem starting February on the test server. Players still hope that Anthem will unleash its great potential.
Who should check it out again?
- Those who really like Anthem and haven’t played for a while can now play it for a few weeks and take advantage of the Winter event. The gameplay is still cool. One shouldn’t expect a large long-term motivation: The problems in the game systems from the release still exist. But there is now a bit more content and a few new weapons.
- Others can be advised to wait for the overhaul, “2.0”/”Next”. Then Anthem could gain new momentum, attract new players or bring back old ones.
