In Anthem you collect experience points and level up your pilot. This affects the difficulty and the rarity of the loot.
What is the pilot level? After every activity in Anthem, you earn experience points that increase your pilot’s level. The pilot is your character, the figure controlling one of the four Javelins.
The pilot level should not be confused with the Gear Score, which indicates how powerful your equipment is.
What is the maximum level in Anthem? The current maximum level of your pilot is 30. Depending on the difficulty level you played and the activities you completed alongside the main story of Anthem, you will have reached between level 20 and 25 after the campaign.

These features are determined by the pilot level
What is the pilot level good for? The pilot level in Anthem determines how much gear you can equip. As you level up, you unlock additional slots for components. Additionally, the maximum level allows you to play at the highest of the six difficulty levels.
Moreover, the pilot level also affects the rarity level of the loot that you find on your adventures.
Influence on the loot
Anthem has six rarity levels for loot. MMORPG fans will quickly find their way, as Anthem also uses the proven color code for items:
- Common (white)
- Uncommon (green)
- Rare (blue)
- Epic (purple)
- Masterwork (orange)
- Legendary (yellow)

As you level up your pilot, the chance of obtaining items of a higher rarity level also increases. You can obtain the best items once you reach the maximum level of 30:
- Pilot Level 1 – 9: Loot up to Uncommon (green)
- Pilot Level 10 – 19: Loot up to Rare (blue)
- Pilot Level 20 – 29: Loot up to Epic (purple)
- Pilot Level 25+: A small chance for loot of Masterwork (orange)
- Pilot Level 30: Loot up to Masterwork (orange), as well as a small chance for loot of the highest level Legendary (yellow)

Influence on the difficulty level
Anthem currently has six difficulty levels. At the start of the game, you can select the levels Easy, Normal, and Hard.
However, once you reach the maximum level, you can also play on Grandmaster levels 1 to 3. These levels not only offer a greater challenge but also increase the chance to loot better items.
These rewards are unlocked with an increasing pilot level
