Anthem is eagerly awaited by many fans. But will the game eventually succumb to the insanity of loot boxes?
Slowly but surely, a community is forming on Reddit that is already waiting for the next big game from BioWare. Anthem is supposed to be a “casual” shooter that can be enjoyed in co-op with a few friends. At first glance, this seems to be a clear attack on the reigning champion Destiny (2).
And if the model shows anything, it’s how to make a lot of money: Different premium versions, a season pass, and microtransactions can be purchased or executed.
Loot boxes in Anthem are “still under discussion”
There are many threads on Reddit where players are already expressing their concerns about loot boxes. The worries about a “toxic loot box economy” are immense.
The Creative Director of Anthem, Brenon Holmes, then spoke up and explained that the team is “constantly discussing the topic.” He cannot reveal any concrete details yet because the discussion is still ongoing internally.
In the end, he also tries to reassure:
“If it helps you, we are also gamers. Some people on the team share a similar position regarding monetization. This view is definitely represented.”
Since Anthem will likely come out later in 2018, it may be too early to expect definitive statements from the developers. However, the statement did not reassure the potential player base.
