Many players are currently stuck on a quest in Anthem, where they are supposed to find 4 tombs. This highlights some of the weaknesses in Anthem: For example, much is under-explained. Hardly anyone knows what “kill streaks” actually are.
This quest drives players crazy: The so-called “Tomb Quest” (the search for 4 tombs) appears relatively early in Anthem, around level 10.
The quest differs significantly from the usual story quests in Anthem, where players are clearly guided.
Players must open 4 graves in Anthem’s “Free Play”, meaning they are navigating the open world without much explanation.
The freelancers must earn access to each grave by completing challenges that mainly consist of grind tasks like “kill 50 enemies in melee combat.”
In total, there are 15 “grind milestones” to reach. Once these milestones are achieved, that’s it. There’s no big fight afterwards.
What players need to do in the quest: As detailed by Forbes, several hours of grind work are necessary to complete the quest:
- Tomb of Artinia: 5 World Events, 30 weapon kills, 15 weak point kills, 9 elite kills
- Tomb of Cariff: 3 missions, 30 gear kills, 15 combos, 3 kill streaks
- Tomb of Gawnes: 50 melee kills, 50 ultimate kills, 3 legendary kills
- Tomb of Yvena: 15 chests, collect 25 materials, repair 3 javelins, collect 10 items
What are kill streaks and what do you need to collect?
Here are the problems: There are a number of difficulties with this quest:
- “Chests” are currently bugged and only count when you open them yourself. This is supposed to be fixed in a patch, so that those opened by other players in the group are also counted.
- Then, “kill streaks” are hard to understand. It is unclear what counts as a “kill streak” in Anthem. It means that you need to complete 8 kills, and there can be no more than 10 seconds between kills.
- Also, what “collectibles” are is not explained by the game itself. They can be found randomly in the open world.
Here’s how fans are reacting: Currently, there is a lot of frustration surrounding this horror quest (via reddit). It is perceived as a “hurdle” that makes it difficult for many to access the game further. It’s particularly unfortunate that it falls right at the end of the 10-hour “trial period” for many players who crash against it.
There is a lot of criticism. The quest is so unpopular that players even curse the entire free play of Anthem.
One can be curious whether and when BioWare will address this.
