You have reached the endgame of Anthem and want to improve your equipment? Equipment items are inscribed with special bonuses that are meant to help you in combat. We show you all the abilities (perks) and what they mean.
The endgame of Anthem largely consists of collecting new equipment that makes you stronger and thus increases your chances of survival in harder difficulty levels.
However, Anthem explains relatively little in the game itself. Which equipment items are good, which can be safely dismantled? To make such decisions, you must weigh which abilities you want on your equipment items.
BioWare has shed some light on the properties of equipment. But which ones are the best, you will find out here!

This is why these equipment perks are so important in Anthem: Your equipment always contains abilities or perks (the so-called inscriptions) that influence various aspects of gameplay. Understanding these inscriptions is essential to distinguish the junk from the best stuff. Unfortunately, the labeling of the mods in the game is lacking and hard to understand.
What types of properties are there? Anthem distinguishes between two types:
- Inscriptions that affect the entire equipment (general damage increase) and are represented with a Javelin image.
- Inscriptions that only affect the item on which this inscription is rolled. These are represented with gear.

This can result in some adventurous effects:
- Elemental abilities that only cause increased physical damage for this ability. Since it is an elemental ability, this perk is useless.
- Sniper rifles with improved recoil when firing from the hip. I apologize here to all Destiny veterans for the flashback.

The best global inscriptions and what they do
General or global inscriptions always affect the entire equipment. Look out for the following properties:
- +% Damage – Increases damage output from ALL sources. One of the best inscriptions, as it amplifies your total damage.
- [Skill] +% Damage – Increases the damage of a specific skill. Which skill is meant can be identified by the assigned button.
- [Skill] +% Cooldown – Reduces the cooldown of a specific skill, effectively increasing your damage output
- [Weapon] +% Damage – Increases damage of a specific weapon type. Combined with the normal damage bonus for all equipment, you will become a DPS monster.
- Armor +% Maximum – Increases the green health bar and thus your chances of survival.
- Combo +% Damage – Increases the combo damage dealt. Especially in higher difficulty levels, this is an important value.
- Element +% Damage – Increases damage of all elemental attacks. Not to be confused with properties that only affect a specific element.
- Mêlée +% Damage – Increases damage from melee attacks and abilities. Particularly interesting for Interceptors that slice through enemy hordes in close combat.
- Repair +% Drop Rate – Increases the drop chance of repair items on a kill. Especially important for Colossi that are constantly in the thick of battle.
- Shield +% Delay – Reduces the time your shield takes to recharge. You can thus return to battle faster.
- Shield +% Capacity – Increases shield capacity, which is always a good thing.
- Strength +% Luck – Luck increases the chance to obtain high-quality loot (qualitative, not quantitative). If you find weapons with this perk, do not discard them. They can still be very useful later, as you find rarer loot thanks to this ability.
- Weapon +% Damage – Increases damage of all weapons
- Weapon +% Magazine – Increases magazine size of all weapons
- Weapon +% Ammo – Increases ammo reserves of all weapons

The best special inscriptions and what they do
Special inscriptions only affect the equipment item on which this inscription is rolled. You can safely take the following properties:
- +% Critical Damage – Increases damage from critical hits. Very valuable on slowly firing weapons like sniper rifles
- Weapon +% Rate of Fire – Increases the rate of fire of the equipped weapon and thus the damage dealt
- Weapon -% Reload Time – Reduces the reload time of the equipped weapon

Which Javelin should look for which abilities? The inscriptions you should focus on largely depend on how you want to play Anthem:
- Javelins like the Storm are more focused on powerful elemental attacks. Therefore, you should look for properties that enhance these abilities. Weapons play a subordinate role here.
- The Interceptor has little durability but often finds itself in the thick of battle. Focus on melee inscriptions and try to enhance your armor and shield
- The Colossus requires just like the Interceptor a lot of armor but can also deal significant damage with its heavy weapons. All perks that strengthen these weapons make the tank even more powerful.
- The Ranger is a balanced class and offers a lot of room for customization options. Decide for yourself whether you want to strengthen the weapons or your skills like the grenade or the damn cool laser arm.

Still not sure which Javelin is right for you? Take the test to find out which class you should play.
