The upcoming shared-world shooter Anthem has now reached Alpha status. All content is now in the game and functioning. Is there nothing standing in the way of a timely release?
Many can hardly wait for Anthem. The science-fantasy game is scheduled to hit stores in early 2019. As with most major and highly anticipated titles, fans often fear that the release date will be postponed – for the second time.
When is Anthem supposed to be released? A release is planned for February 22, 2019.
However, the development of Anthem has now reached a milestone that makes a timely release more likely. Developer Casey Hudson commented on this in a blog post on the Bioware homepage.

Anthem reaches Alpha status – Everything is in, everything works
According to Hudson, Anthem has now reached the next important phase of development. The online shooter is now in Alpha status.
What does Alpha status mean for Anthem? All planned content for release is now integrated into the game and appears to be functioning already. The team can now focus on polishing the game. The further work will be a significant task for Hudson and his team, as he himself writes.
We can almost exclusively move on to bug fixing, testing, and tuning – which means an incredible amount of work for such a large game.
How big Anthem could be, you can see here at the nearly complete map.
Will there be a way to test Anthem? Pre-order customers and subscribers of EA and Origin Access will receive access to a VIP demo, which is supposed to start on February 1, 2019.

Bioware is already having fun with Anthem
In the blog post, Hudson expresses emotion and reminisces about the time when Bioware was still developing classics like Baldur’s Gate.
We knew we had something special. […] 20 years later, I feel exactly the same way.
Apparently, the developers are also busy playing Anthem themselves. According to Hudson, employees at Bioware and partner studios are already joining together in groups to play it together.
