One of the biggest criticisms of Anthem since its presentation at E3 2018: Too large damage numbers and combo notifications. Not even four weeks later, BioWare presents a solution to the problem.
Recently, a new gameplay trailer was shown, which displays a complete mission in Anthem from the perspective of the Colossus class. While many players already call the footage the best so far, one criticism became evident again.

Damage numbers impair visibility: The damage numbers flicker across the screen with a size and frequency that makes it difficult to identify even the enemies. When two Javelins (the classes) fire their attacks simultaneously, combos are even possible. This is announced with the word Combo with every hit, further impairing visibility.
The executive producer Mark Darrah has now revealed in a Twitter post how Bioware has solved the problem:
Adjust the damage numbers as you like: Already at launch, you will have various options to modify the damage numbers:
- Should the damage numbers even be displayed?
- Adjust the transparency of the displayed numbers between 0-100%
- Change the size of the displayed damage numbers

How exactly the settings will affect gameplay is not yet known. However, it is noteworthy that Bioware has addressed the criticism and resolved it in a very short time.
Anthem will be released on February 22, 2019, for the PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One platforms.
How will you adjust the damage numbers? Will you make them smaller – or prefer to do without them altogether?
