In Diablo 4 there are not only mounts but also cosmetic saddles. You can put these on your horse to look fancier. One of them can be purchased from the stable master, but it will likely cost you around 6 million gold. However, if you pay that much, you are making a big mistake.
What kind of saddle is this?
- Saddles are cosmetic items that allow you to personalize your mount. You can get them in the shop and can also find and buy them in the game.
- You can get a saddle for in-game currency from an NPC, the
Sturdy Saddle
. However, it costs a lot of gold from the merchant. - As players have now discovered, you can get the saddle much cheaper (via Reddit). You only need a low-level character for that. We tested it.
Where can I get the saddle? You can get the saddle from the stable master you trust. If you check in during the game with your first character, you will find that you need to pay around 5 to 6 million gold for the saddle.
However, there is a trick to save a lot.

New characters get a special price
How can I save on the saddle purchase? If you want to purchase the saddle for less, you simply need to create a second character. No worries, you can skip the campaign if you have already completed it with your first character. Then you can even ride immediately.
Gold is account-bound, so you can use it for the saddle on the second character. After creating the character, head to the saddle master, recognizable by the horse symbol on the map.
There, you can buy the saddle in his shop. You leave the shop, and you will find the saddle in your inventory. You can then simply “use” it to add it to your equipment.
When you interact with the stable master again and call up your mounts’ equipment, you will find the saddle and can equip it on your horse – for all your characters.
In short:
- Create a new character
- You spawn in Kyovashad
- Go to the stable master (horse symbol on the map)
- Click on “Merchant” at the top and then on “Mount Equipment”
- Buy the saddle
- Open your inventory
- Left-click on the saddle
- The saddle will be added to your equipment
- If needed: go back to the menu and switch character
- Talk to the stable master
- Equip the saddle under “Stable”
Fluctuating prices depending on level
How expensive is the saddle then? The saddle costs around 7,000 – 11,000 gold for your second character. We have not yet been able to determine why the prices are so different.
We tested it with 3 accounts and 3 new characters, all freshly at level 1, yet we had all different prices. But no matter if it’s 7,000 or 11,000, all of them are much less than the 6 million gold that you would have to pay with a highly leveled first character.
For characters that are around level 45–55, the saddle costs around 4 million gold – not that much less than at the levels nearing 100.
Changing the world tier had no impact on the price for a character at level 81.
Can I ride with my new character? Yes. Unlike with the first character, it is possible to ride directly. The campaign has been skipped, you spawn in Kyovashad, and can get on your mount with the Z key on the keyboard / right D-pad on the controller.
All mounts and armors that you have acquired or received by then are available to you. The downside of the saddle is that it counts as complete armor and cannot be worn additionally to other armor.
Whether you want to wear a saddle or one of the fancy armors is up to you.
