You meet the mysterious bard Alfira early on in Baldur’s Gate 3. She teaches every class how to play as a bard. But beware: One wrong step and this valuable opportunity is lost forever. You can find a guide and learn what the bard life brings you on MeinMMO.
What is Alfira hiding? You encounter the lilac-haired tiefling lady early on. The bard is trying to compose a song and is incredibly likable.
But what lies behind her facade goes far beyond the first impression. A romance with the nice bard is not possible, but she can teach you how to play a lute.
By choosing certain dialogue options, Alfira not only gives you her beloved lute from her teacher Lihala. No, she even teaches your character how to play it. It doesn’t matter if you are playing as a bard or, for example, a monk.
Where can I find Alfira? You can find the bard directly east of the Emerald Grove at the edge of a cliff – Coordinates X:277 and Y:508. Long before you actually see her, you can hear her playing the lute from afar. You will quickly feel why so many succumb to her charm.
Make your life in Baldur’s Gate 3 easier with this useful feature:
So you learn how to play like a bard without making a terrible mistake
- Quick Guide: This is how you learn to play instruments
- Meet Alfira at coordinates X:277 and Y:508
- Set a save point in case you fail the checks
- Choose the dialogue option: “Give me the lute. We can play together.”
- Then choose the option: “Performance”
- Pass one of the two charisma checks: first 15, then 10
Long Guide: It seems that Alfira is struggling with composing a song. To help her, you need to navigate through a series of tricky choices and challenging tests. Tip in advance: It’s best to set a save point before your conversation with Alfira.
When you speak to her, offer your help in composing her song. Shortly after, a crucial choice will occur. You can walk away, ask what the song is about, or ask her to give you the lute – so you can play together. Choose the latter decision to kickstart your musical career.
Next, you will choose the option “Performance.” This is where your first charisma check starts. You need to roll at least a 15 – which is quite a difficult check without bonuses. If you fail this, you still have a chance with a check of 10.
This advantage comes from Lihala’s lute: If you pass one of the two tests and remain polite during the conversation, you will receive Lihala’s lute. You can now equip the lute to gain bard class actions.
It teaches you how to play every instrument – as if you were a bard. With your musical talent, you can entertain your companions and NPCs, who will throw you gold.
At any time you can play this selection of songs:
- Bard’s Dance
- Fights of Yore
- The Power
- The Queen’s High Sea
- Of Divinity and Sin
- Sing for Me
Additionally, playing an instrument can be very helpful if you have a pickpocket in your group. Distract merchants, guards, and other NPCs with your music – then your rogue character will have an easy time.
Warning: Spoiler! From here on, the article contains information related to the path “Dark Desire.”
What happens when I play as “Dark Desire”? This will deeply disturb our Alfira lovers. If you choose the “Dark Desire” path in Baldur’s Gate 3, the following happens: Regardless of whether you meet Alfira or not – she will appear in your camp.
After you speak with Kagha, Alfira wants to join you. If you then fall asleep, your character wakes up outside of their sleeping bag. Before you lies the grim sight of Alfira’s mutilated corpse – your character’s hands covered in blood. This dark ending for Alfira is inevitable, no matter how you react to Alfira’s request.
MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus is currently playing as “Dark Desire,” and somehow everyone is into him – Baldur’s Gate 3: Three Women Want to Sleep with Me Because I Am a Heartless Psychopath
