Guild Wars 2 has released a new expansion and it is doing really well. The MMORPG generally enjoys a good reputation in the community, even if not everyone plays it actively. But there are also positive news to report about Throne and Liberty and Lost Ark. We summarize everything important from this week.
This week’s highlights:
- The new expansion Secrets of the Obscure is a great success for GW2. So many players logged in that new servers had to be added on the fly. There were 40% more users on Steam than before. However, players experienced no downtime, no queues, and no major lags.
- Throne and Liberty shared its revamped combat system in a new video and announced PvE dungeons for groups.
- New servers have launched in Lost Ark, where players receive endgame characters immediately. The number of players increased from 45,000 to around 56,000 at peak (via SteamDB).
This week’s controversy: Final Fantasy XIV offered a costume set in the shop that closely resembles a skin in the game itself. The community did not take this well.
The week in the podcast: In their own podcast MMO News, the two MeinMMO editors Alexander Leitsch and Mark Sellner discuss the most important news around MMORPGs this week. Topics included the Pay2Win accusations in RuneScape and Black Desert, the success of Loftia on Kickstarter, the new servers in Lost Ark, and generally many details about WoW.
