Dungeons & Dragons Online was released on March 23, 2006, and has been continuously expanded ever since. A new feature has now been announced, which is common in most MMORPGs and has been rejected by some players.
What is the new feature in D&D Online? The MMORPG is finally getting its first mounts after 13 years. They will be part of the upcoming update called “Keep on the Borderlands”.
The mounts are intended to make traveling in the open world easier. They will come in different speeds and according to a livestream, they will only be horses. There will be no battles on or with the mounts.
The upcoming update will also bring a new wilderness adventure area, where the mount will come into its own.
Mounts are not really necessary in dungeons
How are players reacting to the mounts? Many fans of the MMORPG are somewhat puzzled by the new announcement. Many have simply not missed mounts in a game that has many instances.
A user on YouTube named Karnasis writes under the video:
- “I’m actually fine with cool new features… but do we really need mounts in DDO?”
Players on reddit also seem unsure why mounts are being introduced right now:
- Filbert17: “This is cool, but what gameplay does this bring? There are very few public places where a mount would be useful. Quests are really designed for walking.”
- Evodius: “Housing would have been much more relevant than this, but it’s cool.”
- ChocoPuddingCup: “Urgh. That’s all I have to say about that. Urgh.”
Other players now hope that the new maps could be larger than before.
What else does the new update offer? “Keep on the Borderlands” aims to improve the experience for newcomers. Therefore, changes and new features will mainly be made in the range of level 20 to 30.
In addition, several new dungeons are planned. However, the highlights are the mounts mentioned above and the wilderness adventure area. The update is expected to be released in fall/winter 2019.
In December last year, DDO made headlines with its VIP pass. We are curious if the latest update can also attract attention.
While Dungeons & Dragons Online has been running for many years, new MMORPGs have a harder time with releases:
