After hearing about the project for the first time nearly a year ago and then being quiet for a long time, FoxNext has now officially confirmed that work is still ongoing on a new MMO shooter in the Alien universe. Titles like Destiny or Destiny 2 are also known as MMO shooters.
What happened? Since the launch of Alien: Isolation in 2014, Alien fans on PC and consoles have been waiting for the next big title. Accordingly, some fans were disappointed when the recently announced game Alien: Blackout turned out to be a mobile game.
Many were likely hoping for a new online shooter in the Alien universe that is said to be in development. Does this mean the end for the online game?
The current situation regarding the new Alien MMO shooter: In a recently released press release, FoxNext has now provided clarity.
They assured fans that Alien: Blackout is not the only new Alien game currently in development. Apart from Blackout, there are additional entries concerning Amanda Ripley’s story that will be announced soon.
Last year, it was announced that a new Alien title for PC and consoles is in development. That is still the case, according to FoxNext.
Cold Iron Studios, part of Fox Games, is currently working on an MMO shooter for consoles and PC set in the Alien universe. The mobile game Alien: Blackout should not be confused with this title.
The official Twitter account of Alien has also recently announced that there will soon be more for Alien fans. Very soon.
These news should appease some disappointed Alien fans, after initially announcing a mobile game similar to Diablo.
What is known so far about the new Alien MMO shooter? In the latest announcement, they not only confirmed that work on the project for consoles and PC is evidently still ongoing – they also confirmed for the first time that it will be an MMO shooter. Previously, it was referred to as an online shooter.
Moreover, it was already known from last year that the title will offer an action-packed, persistent world full of secrets. Much more is not currently known.
Titles like Destiny, The Division, or Anthem are also categorized as “MMO shooters”.
This news should appease some disappointed Alien fans. Because it shouldn’t be too long before further official information is released.
Who is FoxNext Games? It is a division of the well-known media company 21st Century Fox. FoxNext Games is responsible for video games there. So far, FoxNext has primarily focused on mobile games. But it seems they now also want to establish themselves on PC and consoles.
