EVE Online has been on the market for 22 years and with the upcoming expansion “Legion” will soon provide a creative solution to solve a major problem: integrating new players without scaring or overwhelming them.
Why is EVE Online too complex? EVE Online has been on the market for 22 years. The game offers fans many ways to spend their leisure time. One can influence politics and the economy with the community, explore space with spaceships, engage in PvP, fight NPCs, and much more.
For veterans, this is all well-known, but for newcomers wanting to dive into the MMO, the vast array of possibilities can be overwhelming. The developers of EVE Online are aware of this and want to simplify it for newcomers with the upcoming expansion “Legion.”
Veterans provide newcomers with missions
How should veterans solve the problem? To prevent newcomers from aimlessly drifting in the endless cosmos, the developers have come up with something special: missions on a “Freelance Board.” These missions range from material procurement to fighting NPCs and more.
However, these missions are not to be created by the developers but rather submitted by veterans from the game. With this feature, newcomers can leisurely find out what suits them best, fulfill the mission, and gradually get a better sense of what is possible in EVE Online.
The developers have spent years trying to find a way to better integrate newcomers into the game but never found a satisfactory solution. With the “Legion” update, the developers are therefore leaning on the community and fans. Game Director Snorri Árnason is even convinced of the idea and states: “We are 100% sure that you will do a better job.”
When does “Legion” start? You won’t have to wait long for the update, as it is scheduled to launch on May 27, 2025. EVE Online is free to play.
