Will PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) now develop in eSports as the popular MOBA LoL? One of the key Riot staff has now been signed.
For many games, the eSports sector is an important element. Individual tournaments attract thousands of people to arenas to cheer for their favorite teams on-site. The number of online viewers is even larger: at peak times, over 1 million viewers simultaneously watch eSports alone on Twitch.
This attraction helps games reach new heights, continually drawing in new viewers who accidentally stumble upon a livestream and stick around. eSports is the own cosmos of a game – and PUBG wants to expand it now.
Experiences from League of Legends now in PUBG
League of Legends has built a good reputation in the eSports sector in recent years. Major tournaments regularly take place. World Championships are broadcast in stadiums before live audiences and online. Even bands like Imagine Dragons perform and perform the theme song of the championships.
Well-known organizations like Counter Logic Gaming, Cloud 9, Team Solo Mid, and even Schalke 04 have teams in League of Legends and in some other eSports titles. Jung Hyun Kwon worked as the Managing Director of eSports at Riot Games. He had an overview of everything happening in the eSports sector of League of Legends. Previously, he was at EA Korea, Vivendi Korea, and Blizzard Korea. He worked at Riot Games for seven years and was responsible for the huge eSports brand that League of Legends now represents.
Now Kwon works as the Chief Marketing Officer at PUBG Corp. and will likely take on similar tasks there.
