The new anime Solo Leveling is based on a popular webtoon and could also be a really great tip for true MMORPG fans. You can expect dungeons, heroism, and at first glance a rather classic story of the loser
who gets a second chance.
The latest trailer for the upcoming anime was presented during Anime Expo 2023 and gives you the best insight into the series so far, which is set to be released next winter on Crunchyroll.
The anime is produced by A-1 Pictures and directed by Shunsuke Nakashige, who has also worked on Sword Art Online: Alicization. Musically, the team behind the anime is supported by Hiroyuki Sawano, who was also responsible for the epic score of the successful anime Attack on Titan.
Solo Leveling first became known as a webtoon by Chugong and subsequently was also released as a manga adaptation in Germany.

What does the trailer show? The trailer gives you a deeper insight into the story and introduces several characters. You will meet the protagonist Song Jin Woo, as well as the characters Yoo Jin Ho, Baek Yoon Ho, and Cha Hae In.
Finally, the trailer reveals who the Japanese voice actors behind the characters will be. They include:
- Song Jin Woo voiced by Taito Ban (Ferdinand von Aegir from Fire Emblem)
- Baek Yoon Ho voiced by Hiroki Tōchi (Chris Redfield from Resident Evil)
- Cha Hae In voiced by Reina Ueda (Ganyu from Genshin Impact)
The trailer especially excites anime fans and makes you want to see more. Fans of the original webtoon and manga express in the comments (via Youtube) mainly that this trailer gives hope for a good adaptation.
What is Solo Leveling about? The real world is connected to another dimension through the Gates
. They suddenly appeared in the world over a decade ago, and since then, people with supernatural abilities have awoken. These people are called Hunters
.
The Hunters earn their living by conquering the dungeons within the gates. Protagonist Jin Woo is also one of these hunters, but he is considered the weakest hunter of all humanity
. In his attempt to conquer a high-ranking dungeon, he is mortally wounded and is on the brink of death when a mysterious quest window appears before him.
The quest requires him to level up and fight to the top of the hunters. Jin Woo decides to accept this quest, and thus begins his second chance to prove himself as a hunter.
