In April 2023, the anime Mashle: Magic and Muscles started on the simulcast service Crunchyroll. During Jump Festa 2024, it was announced that the second season will follow in early 2024. The creators have released a trailer to get fans excited for the anime.
What is behind Mashle: Magic and Muscles?
- The manga, which serves as the basis for the anime, was published from 2020 to 2023.
- In the anime, we experience the events from the perspective of Mash Burnedead. He is the only person in a magical world who cannot cast spells.
- To compensate, Mash trains so hard that he can make up for his lack of magical powers in battles with brute strength. However, due to an unfortunate accident, he has to enroll in a school for magic and navigate everyday life without any sorcery.
- You can currently watch the anime on Crunchyroll. It is available in Japanese original language with subtitles or German dubbing. Other languages like English and Spanish are also supported.
What do fans like about the anime? The anime has a rating of 4.8/5 stars on Crunchyroll based on 67,300 ratings. Some users like Johannes-Benedictus describe the anime as “One Punch Man with magic.” Both animes share the same dry humor and feature a funny, not very emotional main character.
Additionally, some fans are laughing about how the anime includes some references to Harry Potter and Hogwarts Castle. For example, in the trailer embedded below, there is an owl delivering a letter to the wizards, which may remind some of Harry Potter.
Moreover, the cream puffs that appear repeatedly in the series have captivated the viewers.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles receives a second season
When does Season 2 start? At Jump Festa 2024, it was announced that the anime will air on Japanese television starting January 6, 2024 (via Twitter). The episodes will be available on Crunchyroll just a few hours after their broadcast (via Crunchyroll).
What content will there be? The first season contained the first two story arcs of the manga. So, the story will likely continue with the third arc. The “Execution Arc” is the shortest arc of the manga, consisting of only four chapters, in which there is not even any fighting.
So far, only the “The Divine Visionary Candidate Exam Arc” has been officially confirmed. In this story section, we learn more about the people who possess three magical facial marks. The number of lines on their face indicates how powerful a magician is.
Mashle: Magic and Muscles has a total of 6 story arcs. It is not known how many seasons will follow after season 2. It is presumed that the total number will be 3 or 4 seasons, depending on how much screen time is allocated to the individual arcs and whether the manga is fully adapted.
