One of the highlights from the Spring Season 2024 in the Anime area was the anime Kaiju No. 8. After the first season ended a few weeks ago, the question remained whether there would be a continuation. With a new trailer, the creators announced that a 2nd season is on the way – and when it will be released.
What kind of trailer is this? The trailer mainly shows scenes featuring important battles from the first season. We see several Kaijus that the protagonists had to fight against. Unfortunately, there are no new scenes from season 2 to be seen.
The visuals look as if they were filmed on VHS. This creates a nostalgic aesthetic that sets the mood for the upcoming season.
When does season 2 come out? The trailer reveals that Kaiju No. 8 will continue in 2025. We will probably find out exactly when in a few months. The continuation exists likely due to the great success of the anime, which can be attributed to the massive success of the anime.

Several projects for Kaiju No. 8 on the way

- There will be a special episode called Hoshina’s Day-Off. Soshiro Hoshina is the vice-captain of the Third Division of the Defense Force. His handling of close combat weapons is excellent. The episode is set to be released in Japanese theaters sometime in 2025 (via MyAnimeList).
- A new spin-off named Kaiju No. 8 Relax launched in Japan on June 4, 2024 (via ANN). It will take some time before the manga will be released here.
- Kaiju No. 8: B-Side is another spin-off that has been out since January 5, 2024, and is now complete. An English release has so far been announced for Q2 2025 (via VIZ Media). A German version may follow.
- There is also a light novel about Kaiju No. 8 titled Exclusive on the Third Division, which is set to be released first in English and is expected in Q4 2024 (via ANN).
- As if that weren’t enough, there is also a video game in the works. The game, with the simple name Kaiju No. 8: The Game, was announced in June 2024 and is set to be released for Mobile and Steam (via kj8-thegame).
What is Kaiju No. 8 about? Japan is being attacked by giant monsters known as Kaiju. An elite military unit is responsible for exterminating the monsters. Childhood friends Kafka and Mina vow to someday land in the elite unit. Mina succeeds, but Kafka fails multiple times at the entrance exam and becomes a crime scene cleaner.
But on a fateful day, he encounters a parasite that flies into his mouth. Kafka can then transform himself into a Kaiju and tries again to get into the elite team.
