Many magical items in Diablo II: Resurrected – This is made possible by a secret Easter egg that finally makes sense after years.
Diablo II is regarded by many as the mother of modern action RPGs and has nearly perfected the art of loot collecting. Players can immerse themselves in the game for hundreds of hours. However, the grind can be massively accelerated. An ancient Easter egg now ensures that you find many more magical items than ever before.
4200 Magic Find leads to a massive loot rain
What is this secret? Blizzard has included Easter eggs in many games where developers are honored or humorous messages are conveyed – this is also present in Diablo II. If you manage to separate 4 enemies named “Gloam” (who look like ghosts or souls) so that they are without other enemies nearby, they will start to perform a little dance.
Instead of attacking the player character, they shoot chain lightning at each other in a curious form – as they spell out the names of some developers.
The exciting part is, however, when they finish this dance – which happens once they start attacking you again. Because then the character receives a buff of 4,200 “Magic Find” for 19 hours or until you close the game. This buff is not displayed on the character screen, but is still active once the dance of the ghosts is complete.
Why hasn’t this been used before? According to YouTuber MacroBioBoi, it is because in the hunt for items in Diablo II, the speed at which content is farmed is essential rather than such a buff. Additionally, Magic Find only affects items that directly drop from monsters you defeat with your character. So if you open a chest, loot a weapon rack, or defeat enemies with environmental effects, this is not influenced by Magic Find – and is therefore basically worthless.
Why is this important now? In Diablo II, there is the option to blanket an entire act with terror using “Worldstone Shards.” This drastically enhances all enemies and bosses of the act and allows them to drop many more items. This, in turn, is massively influenced by Magic Find, so you will literally be showered with loot while you fight your way through the various acts.
By the way, the buff also means that you do not need any additional “Magic Find” on items – it would literally provide no additional effect, as Magic Find has a diminishing return. This means you can fully gear your character for damage or speed without worrying about accumulating more Magic Find on your armor.
If you’re planning to check out Diablo II Resurrected again in the next few days and want significantly higher chances for great loot, keep an eye out for some ghosts and let them perform a little dance – at least if you plan to spend several hours in Diablo II.
