In Diablo 4, there are numerous affixes that can strengthen builds. However, players tend to make fun of a certain value – and are convinced that it can only be a joke.
Items in Diablo 4 have various affixes: some are offensive and increase damage, while others are defensive and enhance armor or the maximum health of the player character. Since the release, players have been frustrated with some of these affixes, which are often simply useless. Some were too complicated and at the same time too weak – the community humorously referred to them as “Damage on Tuesdays” affixes.
However, a defensive value tends to cause frustration when an item drops with it, as it is simply too weak. Currently, the community is discussing the affix “Life per Second” on Reddit and wondering if it was meant as a joke.
What is the value about? The defensive value “Life per Second” does exactly what it says: it provides your player character with a certain number of health points per second. But those are not 1,000 points; they are often health points in a tiny range.
Especially in the later game, when players have accumulated maximum health in the 4 to 5 digit range, this means nothing. It would simply take too long for the points to be fully replenished.
“Is this some kind of running gag?”
On Reddit, djinn75 posts a screenshot showing the value “+1 health per 5 seconds”. This means that the player character would receive only one health point – every 5 seconds. In a second screenshot, he shows another affix. This one refers to a 15% chance to heal +2 health.
In the comments, djinn75 explains: “To be fair, the item dropped at level 21.” But he is confident that even in the later game, the affix often drops with low values.
What do players say about it: In the comments on the post, users discuss the useless “life per second” value. SLISKI_JOHNNY writes: “I was just about to ask on Reddit if this is some kind of running gag because health regeneration was absolute garbage even before Loot 2.0.” With Season 4, Blizzard reworked the whole loot system and adjusted the affixes, among other things.
Some jokingly say that the value was introduced as a joke in Diablo 4. No_Obligation_1500 writes: “[That’s] a developer troll that we’ve been stuck with for 3+ months. A few people had their fun when they [inserted] that into the game.”
Others note that it is really strange to see the affix in a larger variant on items. While it is 1.5x stronger – it’s still useless. That’s “the real joke,” writes TheCreator777. And DDmikeyDD jokes: “I mean, with 1 health point per second, you wouldn’t even need 14 hours to regenerate 10,000 health. So not completely useless.”
What is this good for? The affix “life per second” is not bad at all if you are currently leveling a fresh character in Diablo 4 and equipping everything that drops. After the “stat squish” that Blizzard undertook in Season 6, the damage numbers and the values of the characters are no longer that high anyway. The overall smaller numbers are meant to create more clarity and a more pleasant leveling experience. In the beginning, a few health points per second can indeed be quite helpful.
Whether the affix will be adjusted or generally increased in the future is unclear. However, players have also expressed praise for Diablo 4 on Reddit. Because they are only now discovering new features of Vessel of Hatred and are excited about the usefulness.
