Many know the Scottish actor Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser in the series Outlander. However, he originally wanted to be part of Game of Thrones.
The HBO series Game of Thrones is one of the most famous and biggest series ever. It is hardly surprising that many actors wanted to be part of it.
For instance, Pedro Pascal was supposed to help his acting student get a role in the fantasy series and promptly applied himself.
Also, Outlander star Sam Heughan was very eager to be part of Game of Thrones and was very persistent in his endeavors.

“And I came so close every time”
For which roles did he audition? As the actor mentioned in an interview, he auditioned for several characters in Game of Thrones:
“I auditioned seven times for Game of Thrones!” […] “I auditioned for Renly [Baratheon], Loras [Tyrell], and some of the members of the Night’s Watch.” (via vanityfair.com)
According to Sam Heughan himself, he was actually quite close to securing a role in the acclaimed fantasy series. “And I came so close every time! I was like, ‘Guys, just give me a sword!’”
However, despite many attempts, it didn’t work out with Game of Thrones, but he did land the lead role in another series: Outlander – which became a huge career springboard for Sam Heughan.

What about Outlander? The popular drama and romance series has been running since 2014 and enjoys a huge fanbase.
A total of 6 complete seasons have already been released, with the second half of the seventh season expected to be released on November 7, 2024.
An 8th and final season has also already been confirmed. Additionally, a spin-off titled Outlander: Blood of My Blood is set to be released, which will tell the love stories of Claire’s and Jamie’s parents.
Sometimes auditions just don’t go as desired. For example, Jake Gyllenhaal was eager to play a Hobbit in Lord of the Rings and went to audition with director Peter Jackson. However, it went horribly wrong, and he was not even remotely considered for the role of Frodo.
