- With the latest generation, AMD is adopting a new naming scheme, which is said to align with Nvidia’s RTX series.
- AMD aims to primarily cater to the mid-range market; a high-end graphics card has not yet been introduced. The RX 9070 XT is supposed to be based on the RX 7900 XT.
- In addition to the graphics cards, an improvement of FSR was also shown. The latest version, FSR 4.0, is said to be supported by the RX 9070 XT and the RX 9070.
- Technical data is mainly known from leaks, AMD is very reserved about this.
- On March 5, independent tests for the RX 9070 (XT) went live. And the graphics card performs very well. More about it below in the section Tests, Benchmarks and FSR 4.0
AMD introduced its next generation of graphics cards (RDNA4) at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. At least briefly, as AMD has not revealed much yet. Many details come from third-party manufacturers (like ASUS) or from leaks.

According to AMD, the RX 9070 XT and the RX 9070 will be introduced on February 28, 2025, at 2 PM on AMD Gaming’s YouTube channel. On March 5, the embargo for the tests is supposed to drop, and sales are expected to start on March 6. However, this is not yet official:
What will the RX 9070 XT cost? Meanwhile, the official prices of the RX 9070 and the XT are known:
- Radeon RX 9070 XT is priced at 689 Euros (599 US dollars)
- Radeon RX 9070 is priced at 629 Euros (549 US dollars)
The prices for many so-called custom models (graphics cards from third-party manufacturers) are already above the 700 Euro mark. Thus, it is positioned between the RX 7900 XT and the RX 7800 XT.
RX 9070 XT: Pre-order and Buy
When can you buy the RX 9070 XT and the RX 9070? From March 6, 2025, around 3 PM. This is when the official sales launch of AMD’s new graphics cards occurs.
Where can you buy the RX 9070 XT? In Germany, you can order AMD graphics cards either directly through their online shop or from retailers such as Mindfactory, Caseking, or Alternate.
This is likely to happen again this year. It has been regularly reported that AMD maintains particularly good relations with Mindfactory, as you could historically get sold-out AMD CPUs there.
Can you pre-order the RX 9070 XT? Not at this time. We will update our article should this become available.

RX 9070 XT: Tests, Benchmarks and FSR 4.0
Are there official benchmarks? On March 5, 2025, the first tests of the Radeon RX 9070 XT went online. And here, the RX 9070 XT compares very well:
- ComputerBase describes the RX 9070 XT as “Revolution” and explains, “RDNA 4 ultimately makes everything better than RDNA 3.” There are major improvements everywhere, and AMD can finally keep up with Nvidia in ray tracing, but not surpass it.
- PCGamesHardware sees it similarly and states in its test that the RX 9070 XT exceeds almost all expectations one might have had for the new generation: “AMD is making a big comeback in the gaming graphics card market.” According to PCGHardware, you are getting one of the best AMD graphics cards in recent years.
In terms of performance, there is a significant leap forward: The old RX 7800 XT is surpassed by up to 48% (XT model), compared to the RTX 5070, the RX 9070 XT is still 6% faster. However, it does not quite reach the RTX 5070 Ti.
What is FSR 4.0? Here, AMD has also made significant progress. Compared to FSR 3.1, AMD is now also utilizing a neural network and AI for calculations in FSR 4.0. And it shows. For instance, ComputerBase states that FSR 4.0 Super Resolution looks “miles better in every way than FSR 3.1. The difference is truly hard to believe, it is visually a completely different world.”
There is also a lot going on with processors, but AMD will continue to rely on the AM5 socket. However, the old AM4 socket can still be purchased and used. But is AM4 still worth it, or should one switch to AM5 right away? AMD: Is AM4 still worth it or should one switch to AM5?
