Today, on March 3, 2021, AMD will present its latest gaming graphics card. This is likely the RX 6700 (XT), which appears to fit into the mid-range GPU category. Recently, Nvidia released the GeForce RTX 3060. MeinMMO introduces what we can expect this evening.
What’s it about: This evening at 5 PM, AMD will present its latest gaming graphics card with RDNA2. This is the latest architecture from AMD. The Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6900 also utilize this graphics chip.
What can we expect this evening? AMD has already teased the graphics card on Twitter with an image.
In the attached Twitter text, it also says, “Join us as we present our latest addition to the ‘Radeon RX 6000’ family.”
In our article, we explain what we can expect this evening and what we already know. On MeinMMO, we will also cover AMD’s press conference this evening.

Will AMD present the competitor to the RTX 3060 this evening?
What speaks for an RX 6700 (XT)? Besides the GIF on Twitter, where you can see the latest graphics card, there had already been some leaks ahead of time:
- One leak about the RX 6700 (XT) mentioned 12GB of video memory.
- Some leaked photos from ASUS (via Videocardz.com) had already shown custom models of the Radeon RX 6700 XT.
- According to another leak (via Notebookcheck.com), the price for the new graphics card is expected to be between $479.99 and $499.99. In Germany, that would be around 500 euros.
The general situation also indicates that AMD will introduce the smallest RX-6000 graphics card for the mid-range:
- Leaked data such as 12GB of video memory and 1440p gaming speaks for a mid-range graphics card. AMD had previously positioned itself with the RX 5700 (XT).
- In the high-end segment, AMD has already positioned itself with the RX 6800 and RX 6900. It would be uninteresting for AMD to introduce another graphics card here.
- In the low-end segment, AMD only introduced its Radeon RX 5500 in October 2020, which is supposed to replace the RX 500 series (Polaris). It seems unlikely that they would replace a graphics card that is only 6 months old.
What does AMD say about it? AMD has so far refrained from providing information about the new mid-range. We do not know any benchmarks or performance data of the new graphics card.
Could RX 6700 (XT) become competition for the GeForce RTX 3060?
How is AMD currently positioned? Currently, AMD offers the RX 5700 (XT) in the mid-range, which is already two years old. The colleagues at GameStar currently list the RX 5700 XT as the best alternative for gamers who want to play in WQHD or Full HD with more than 60 FPS. In the WQHD segment, Nvidia has now released a successful graphics card with the GeForce RTX 3060.
Next-gen consoles also use AMD, as chips from AMD are also installed in the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
What speaks against it? The leaked price of $479.99 and $499.99 goes against being competition for the RTX 3060, as it was introduced at a retail price of $329.
The price of around $500 is more in line with the RTX 3070, which has a suggested retail price of approximately $500. Since AMD already has a response to the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090, it could indeed be in AMD’s interest to attract buyers of an RTX 3060 Ti or RTX 3070 – provided the final selling price is right.
What about availability? The RX 6800 XT was extremely quickly sold out, and in the USA, there were huge lines outside stores.
Likewise, with a possible release of the RX 6700 XT, AMD and other manufacturers are unlikely to be better positioned regarding availability.
The concern is significant that the graphics card theoretically is excellent, but nobody can get it. Some are already reacting sarcastically on Twitter to the tweet with “The journey where no one can buy your products continues.”
Due to the scarcity, even years-old graphics cards are gaining value, so you can make a profit with your old graphics cards.
