The MMORPG New World by Amazon contains, according to current information, many survival elements. However, an alpha player claims the opposite. The game is said to be more akin to old PvP MMORPGs like Ultima Online or Eve Online.
How is New World structured? The alpha player, referred to as Alphano by the Italian website MMO.it, claims that the game mainly revolves around conquering and defending territories. Many concepts in the game are said to not be new but borrowed from old MMORPGs.
If the game had been released a few years earlier, according to the leaker, no one would describe it as a survival game.
There are also said to be many peaceful activities. For example, you can gain experience and level up by defeating monsters in PvE or by cutting down trees.
PvP as Endgame Content: The Criminal Mode is supposed to ensure that you can be attacked by all players. You have to activate it yourself, and then you can attack players. “Other players are invited to defeat you and loot without being punished for it,” says Alphano.
According to the interview, the endgame is supposed to be significantly focused on PvP and larger battles. He also praises the very action-packed combat system, which he repeatedly compares with that of Dark Souls. An initial impression of the combat system we were able to gain in a previous leak.
Are there survival elements in New World? Characters in New World can be hungry and thirsty. “If the character is suffering from hunger, then it no longer regenerates health points. If it is thirsty, it regenerates stamina much more slowly.”
However, there are said to be enough food items on the map to combat these two effects. However, you do not die in New World directly if you forgo eating and drinking.
When does New World come out?
Alphano has revealed some further details alongside the information on the structure of the game. While he does not expect a release in 2019, he does not consider it impossible. Currently, there are about 10,000 alpha testers, although the game has not yet attracted much attention. You can still register for the alpha.
What problems does New World still have? He currently sees the biggest problems in the player count. “So far, almost 600 people can play on a server at peak times. The question is whether Amazon can keep the promise that 10,000 players can play per server.”
