Users in the USA are receiving emails from Amazon regarding their PS5 pre-orders. There is a risk that not everyone will receive their console directly at launch.
What do the emails from Amazon say? Amazon USA customers who pre-ordered the highly sought-after PS5 console from the online retailer received emails in the past few days containing concerning messages.
It stated that the high demand for the console could lead to possible supply shortages and delays:
[…] We are contacting you regarding your order of the PlayStation 5 console to inform you that you may not receive this order on the release day due to high demand. […]

Further in the text, it states that Amazon will strive to organize a restock as quickly as possible. Customers can also cancel their pre-orders if they have not yet been shipped.
It is unclear whether these emails are a precautionary measure or if Amazon USA has indeed over-accepted pre-orders and allowed too many. In any case, it seems that not all PS5 pre-order customers received the warning email.

The PS5 pre-orders were quite chaotic and many users went empty-handed as the console sold out quickly. Now some successful pre-order customers in the USA might also have to worry.
What about Germany? So far, the warning about supply shortages for PS5 pre-orders only applies to the USA. The screenshots of the emails have been posted on reddit and in the English-speaking section of Twitter. There seems to be no emails sent to German customers yet.
The customer support of Amazon.de could not provide accurate information on the status of pre-orders, but emphasized that the received pre-orders will not be canceled.
If there are indeed supply shortages, they will ensure that all pre-order customers receive their consoles as quickly as possible. MeinMMO has contacted the press office of Amazon Germany for a statement.
If you have received such an email from Amazon, please let us know in the comments.
Meanwhile, scalpers are selling the PS5 on eBay at inflated prices.
