A British Amazon driver sparked controversy after stealing a PS5 from a filming customer at their doorstep. He has now been fired.
This is what happened: At the release of the PlayStation 5, the hunt for the coveted console was immense. Some lucky pre-order customers received the console delivered to their door right at the release.
A family was hit particularly hard. The Amazon driver who was supposed to deliver the console had it in his hand, but then got back into his car with the package and drove away. The PS5 never arrived and was stolen by the supplier.
Amazon driver fired after theft
The theft filmed: The family father filmed the event with the delivery person. He then shared it on Twitter. We have included the screenshot from the magazine Eurogamer, who discovered the case on Twitter:

The video shows the delivery person distributing several smaller Amazon packages to neighbors. Then he places a larger package in the street, which he shortly afterward loads back into his vehicle. The PlayStation 5 was reportedly contained in there.
Here’s how it proceeded: Eurogamer reports that the affected family was in contact with Amazon’s customer support afterward. They offered the family a refund and gift cards as compensation.
However, the daughter of the family drove to the Amazon warehouse and showed the recorded material to the manager there. Amazon assured the family and also stated in a local press release that they would fire the driver and that they have high standards for their drivers.
This is how the launch went for many fans: The PS5 launch was chaotic for many fans. The demand was massive, and Sony could only cover a small part of it. The allocations were sometimes sold out within minutes.
Accordingly, the prices that sellers are now demanding for the new console on eBay are also high. There, prices are sometimes more than double the original price for the PS5:
