Amazon has finally shared new details about the shooter Crucible. It is set to release in May and will feature multiple heroes and game modes. The release date has also been announced.
What is Crucible about? Amazon’s new hero shooter will be Free2Play and is aimed at competitive play. It will compete with Valorant, Riot Games’ new shooter. Two games that are launching around the same time and vying for the attention of players who are generally interested in a new competitive and free shooter. Both titles have a strong focus on Twitch, the streaming platform owned by Amazon, where Valorant is currently number 1.
Crucible offers various game modes with different tasks and objectives. In all of them, you play in teams, with the team sizes varying significantly. In one mode, you fight in small groups of 2 players, while another mode requires 8-player teams. However, there are never more than 16 players in a match.
For each battle, you have 10 different heroes, known as hunters in Crucible, available, each capable of taking on various roles. They come from the races of human, alien, or robot. Throughout a match, you collect essences to level up your hunter and enhance their abilities.
3 different modes with different tasks
What does Crucible offer? At the launch of the game, there will be 3 different modes in the shooter:
- In “Heart of the Swarms,” players fight in teams of 4 against massive boss groups to earn a heart. The first team to earn 3 hearts wins the match. The opposing teams can hinder each other.
- “Harvest Machines Command” is a capture point mode where 2 teams of 8 players try to capture and defend as many machines as possible. The first team to reach 100 points wins.
- The “Alpha Hunter” mode is a classic deathmatch mode where teams of 2 try to be the last ones standing in battle. In this mode, you will encounter not only enemy players but also PvE creatures, making survival challenging.
Crucible will not feature a deathmatch mode in 5v5 at launch, similar to what you find in tactical shooters like CS:GO or Valorant.
Where is the well-known Battle Royale? Before the new press release, very little was known about Crucible. However, it was rumored that Crucible would become a battle royale, with a 13th player taking on the role of the Game Master. They would trigger events and influence the happenings.
However, this mode is not mentioned in the press release.
The first hunters from Crucible have been introduced
What heroes does the shooter offer? Crucible is set to offer 10 different hunters at launch. The first three have already been briefly introduced:
- “Earl” is an interstellar trucker with the build of a tank and a suitable cannon to go with it.
- “Bugg,” on the other hand, is a robot botanist who mainly takes care of the plants in the world.
- The third hunter is named “Summer” and was once a welder. That’s why she fights with a flamethrower on the battlefield.
Two more hunters are named Ajonah (featured image) and Tosca. However, only one image of each has been released so far.

When will Crucible be released? The hero shooter is set to launch on May 20, 2020, on PC. No versions for PS4 or Xbox One have been announced yet.
Crucible is being developed by Rentless Studios, a team within Amazon. Another development studio from the retail giant is currently working on New World, a new MMO that places significant emphasis on social features and fortress battles.
