In Fortnite: Battle Royale has deeply shaken our author Jürgen with the Season 9 trailer. Therefore, he now finds it difficult to play a certain skin.
What can be seen in the trailer? The trailer for Season 9 shows how the characters Jonesy and Schali seek shelter in a bunker before the volcano eruption. In the bunker, they discover a lot of fun things, including video games and fitness equipment.
But then they open the fridge and find nothing inside. The scene ends with the Season 9 skins opening the door years later and freeing a bearded, scruffy Jonesy.
What happened to Schali? Apparently, Jonesy killed poor Schali, ran him through a blender, and made himself an epic banana smoothie. He likely was consuming it the whole time until his rescue. Because he still has a half-full banana shake in his hand when the door opens.
Additionally, he apparently didn’t just sip Schali away, rather he also peeled the poor banana to make himself a cloak.
That’s why it’s bad: This is damn brutal! After all, Schali was by far the most popular skin from Season 8. Okay, I initially found him silly, but later I thought the goofy banana skin, which became riper throughout the game, was really cool and cute.
Fans loved him and even built entire Schali brigades in the 16-player mode.
Unlike the rather lame ninjas, pirates, and the extremely unimpressive Blingerella in my opinion, Schali was the big highlight of the skins from Season 8.
And then Schali appeared in many artworks from Season 8. Once, when he was carried to the volcano by his cheerful subjects. Then again in a scene where he probably made friends with Jonesy. There, Jonesy even saves him from falling into the lava.
The two are truly good friends, and the scene in the bunker, where both are having fun, underscores this.
Therefore, it is even worse that Jonesy simply chops up and drinks his friend. Just the look on Jonesy’s face when it becomes clear after discovering the empty fridge that not both can survive is truly brutal.
I would like to believe the theory of my colleague Noah, who writes in his article that Schali sacrificed himself for Jonesy. But somehow I don’t really believe that all of this happened “voluntarily”.
Is it ultimately not so bad or even worse? But there is still hope that Schali is not (completely) dead. Because the smoothie still seems to have some kind of consciousness. And Jonesy has a tattoo on his arm with the wording “I am Bananas”.
Does Schali possibly live on in Jonesy? And what’s up with the new shop in Neo Tilted that is called “Schali’s Banana Stand” and advertises the counterfeit of the cheerful banana?
But on the other hand: Why does Schaili look so worried on the company sign? Are mass slaughterings of Schali taking place there to be processed into smoothies?
I certainly cannot wear the Jonesy skin anymore with a clear conscience without thinking of Schali’s gruesome end.
