When playing several rounds in a row in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, one often gets the feeling that the maps repeat themselves. But is that true? A player has investigated the myth.
What is it about? How often does the same map actually come up, and are some maps less frequent in the rotation? The reddit user IamEclipse has delved into this topic. He played 100 rounds of Search & Destroy and documented precisely which maps and especially how often these maps appeared.
The 100 rounds are, of course, just a small attempt to understand the overall rotation logic in Modern Warfare, but they certainly provide a good insight into the map selection.
Are some maps actually more frequent?
Here are the findings: A total of 100 rounds were examined. It turned out that no map was present more than 9 times:
The top 3 spots are shared by 5 maps:
- Arklov Peak – 9 %
- Gun Runner / Azhir Cave – 8 %
- Piccadilly / Hardhat – 7 %
Interestingly, Aniyah Incursion and Shipment did not appear at all in the 100 rounds. Especially Shipment is a popular map among players, but it was completely unplayable here. However, Piccadilly is among the most frequent.
What does the player say about his analysis? He cannot confirm the myth of the always same maps. He states that he could not identify any specific patterns in the rotation and never felt that he was repeatedly playing the same map.
For some players, however, the choice of map makes no difference anyway. They are playing with such tunnel vision that the environment doesn’t matter.
What can we take away from the analysis? It seems that some maps appear more frequently than others. While Arklov Peak has come up 9 times, 2 maps did not appear at all.
However, it cannot be confirmed that a map comes up again and again.
What the player noticed negatively: The map Piccadilly appeared 7 times, even though it is quite unpopular among players. Even developers say about this map that all players should leave the lobby quickly.
