In Destiny 2, players are looking for replacements for their best weapons that are soon going into retirement. But why is the search doomed to fail?
What happens to the Super Weapons? Destiny 2 is sending many weapons into retirement this autumn. While the guns won’t disappear into thin air, they will no longer be up to date in a variety of activities and cannot be equipped in the endgame if one wants to keep up.
The topic has been controversially discussed for months, even here on MeinMMO. While some Guardians can say goodbye to a large part of their arsenal without tears, parting with the Super Weapons really hurts.
The reason is simple: often players are rewarded with the most potent murder tools after hard quests or long grinds. These legendary weapons are then proudly worn – the Guardians have a connection to them, having earned them.
Players want replacements for their strongest weapons in Destiny 2
Still, some Destiny players hope for a change from Bungie. The good news should be: We have heard you, there will be no weapon (and armor) retirement.
But the majority has accepted the inevitable and turned their gaze forward. The next logical step is therefore to look for replacements for the Super Weapons – it is better to find them too. But this endeavor seems harder than expected.
The experts among streamers and YouTubers have heard the loud call of the community. The Destiny greats are doing their best to unearth weapons that can replace the dwindling champions.
These guns should be replaced: Particularly high in the hierarchy of legendary firearms are the so-called pinnacle weapons. Instead of relying on perk variety, they focus on fixed, unique abilities – they are often Exotics in legendary guise.
The most popular and most used examples of these are:
- The Recluse – A SMG that becomes stronger regardless of which weapon kills are made and reloads faster with quick kills
- The Apex – A grenade launcher that is essentially a rocket launcher for your pocket
- Revocation – A sniper rifle that magically returns misses to the magazine
Even though many pinnacle weapons have been hit hard by nerfs over time, they are still very popular and firmly established in the players’ inventory.
This is why the search remains in vain: Unfortunately, no content creator seems able to satisfy the hunger for a new pinnacle weapon. Although many videos titled

give their best effort.
In the end, most conclusions read: The weapon XY comes close, but unfortunately, it is not a real replacement.” So also in the recently released comparison video (via YouTube) by Eroar, the famous member of the Reedem Clan.
No one can criticize the attempts. Because players long for an equal replacement for the pinnacle weapons. And many of the presented alternatives are not clickbait, but approach the matter very detail-oriented and analytically.
The problem is rather that the unique perks of the weapons simply cannot be replaced. MeinMMO author Philipp Hansen firmly believes that no real alternative to the pinnacle weapons will be found before the weapon retirement.
And there is nothing left to do but wait for the autumn DLC Beyond Light. Because Bungie announced that it will use the weapon retirement to bring new and unique weapons and perks into the game.
But even if some weapons cannot be replaced, many legendary weapons are still worth it, especially the new Exotics from Season 11. Two of the new wonder weapons are currently being praised and show that Bungie dares to take new paths.
