A miniature artist has found a way to give old, discarded dice a second chance. This not only showcases his strong idea generation but also his special skill and how important a stylish base can be in tabletop.
What has the artist made from his old dice? The miniature artist VaultBoySaysRelax shows the community of miniature hobbies on Reddit his latest project: he used old W6 (six-sided dice) that he no longer had use for, to turn them into objective markers. With a bit of texture on the actual dice and a lush base, the dice look as if they have been part of their surroundings for years:
The artist is a bit unsure about the snow-covered variant and whether he likes his result, but he receives over 2,000 upvotes and a lot of support from the community. They are absolutely thrilled with the implementation as well as the idea itself.
Through stylish upgrades, old dice get a new purpose
What were the dice made into? The dice were turned into so-called objective markers which, as the name suggests, are used to mark objectives, or mission goals. By having mission objectives, the battlefield is provided with more tasks than just a pure brawl between opposing troops. Both sides can try to secure valuable artifacts, supplies, or a stronghold at these marking spots.
Typically, a round marker of 40 mm is used, for which some players also utilize designed miniature bases that fit their army.
How does the community react to the artist’s W6 objective markers? The miniature community on Reddit loves the artist’s idea, as the result not only looks very stylish but also offers a good utilization for discarded dice. TTRPG players, whether in Warhammer, D&D, or other examples, can rarely resist stylish dice. That’s why “dice goblins” quickly amass whole collections.
“This is a great way to retire dice that no longer want to perform properly,” writes Tantexto. But many other Reddit users also want to use this idea in the future, like Rhe_Wyzard: “That’s awesome, I will do it immediately. Maybe different types of dice to distinguish them. A W4 target, W6 target, W8 target, and so on.”
With the project, the artist not only provided a lot of inspiration but also proved how underestimated strong terrain skills are in the miniature hobby and how they should not be neglected.
