Alpha of Dauntless for Founders – When do the Beta phases start?
The Alpha of Dauntless begins on August 18 and ends on August 30. It will be a 24/7 Alpha, meaning the servers will remain open continuously. Players who have purchased a founder’s pack will have access, which grants access to the Alpha.
Later, Dauntless is set to become a free-to-play game.
The Alpha marks the “I can finally play Dauntless” phase of the project. A closed beta is planned for the third quarter of 2017, followed by an open beta in the fourth quarter of 2017.
What is Dauntless?
Dauntless is closely related to the “Monster Hunter” franchise. It’s basically as if you take everything from an MMORPG away, except the boss fights. Players prepare meticulously for these, which take a long time and have multiple phases.
The “Monster Hunter” franchise has made a hit out of this formula. However, Monster Hunter is more of a thing for Asia or handheld consoles.
Dauntless aims to take this formula, make a coop MMO out of it, and bring it to PC and to Europe and North America. It is described as a mix of Monster Hunter, Dark Souls, and World of Warcraft.
A port for PS4 and Xbox One is not ruled out by Dauntless – this would probably be done if it performs well on PC. A controller option is already possible.
For a long time, it seemed that Dauntless was the only way to play such a game here in the West. Nowadays, Monster Hunter World has been announced for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. However, it’s still going to take a bit longer. Dauntless thus has a head start. Additionally, Dauntless will be free-to-play and will emphasize coop/MMO elements of the idea more than Monster Hunter World.
