Currently, one of the largest wars in the history of the space MMORPG EVE Online is taking place. The reason for the conflict is simple: revenge on an old alliance.
What’s going on? The ongoing war is known as World War Bee 2 and started in July 2020. It revolves around the battle between the two major alliances Legacy and The Imperium. Basically, it concerns the ownership of territories in All.
Such wars are not uncommon in EVE Online and are one reason why the MMORPG is still so popular among players.
Revenge led to perhaps the largest war in EVE Online
What is really behind the war? In 2014, EVE player Vily was one of the most successful fleet commanders for The Imperium. However, he had to put the game aside for a few months as he had to fulfill a deployment for the military in real life.
When he returned, he found out that his former alliance boss had fired him in the meantime. It was said that he was no longer needed.
Vily’s response was harsh:
Alright. If you want to ignore my contributions over these four or five years, I will go do something else. And I will enjoy tearing you down if that’s the game you want to play.

What happened next? Five years later, Vily was able to assemble one of the largest fleets the MMORPG EVE Online has ever seen. His time for revenge had come. Tens of thousands of players joined him in the fight, and he declared war on his former boss Alex “Mittani” Gianturco, the leader of The Imperium, in the game.
How is the war going? According to current estimates, the war has already consumed around 280,000 euros in ships and space stations. Experts believe that The Imperium may face serious difficulties. Some suspect that the alliance is even on the brink of collapse. Vily’s fleet is nearly twice as large with about 52,000 player accounts compared to The Imperium’s 29,000 accounts.
EVE players believe that World War Bee 2 could develop into the largest conflict in the history of the game.
What does the leader of The Imperium think about the situation? Mittani, who is known for his intrigues and machinations in EVE Online, takes the threat very seriously. That’s why he called on his allies on September 8 to come to his aid.
Discussions had already arisen around the leader when the alliance was invited by the developer to H1Z1, especially since the players were only looking for trouble:
Vily, on the other hand, stated that he would not stop until The Imperium was completely destroyed. He wants to eliminate this alliance from the game.
In EVE Online, the largest battle ever seen in the MMORPG is now imminent. Whether The Imperium will survive this remains to be seen in the coming weeks.
Wars in EVE Online have impacts on the entire game
Why are these wars special? EVE Online is a complex sandbox MMO where players create everything themselves. Every weapon, every spaceship, and every industrial outpost is built and developed by players.
So when two alliances fight to the bitter end, it can truly mean the end of the alliance if they have no ships or safe havens left.
