A supposed survey by Blizzard suggests that it may be possible to obtain cards through a subscription in the future.
What is Hearthstone?
- Hearthstone is an online collectible card game developed and published by Blizzard.
- It takes place in the world of Warcraft.
- Hearthstone is available as a free-to-play title for Windows, macOS, and mobile devices on iOS and Android.
- Players can compete against other players or AI opponents with virtual card decks.
A supposed Blizzard survey suggests a Hearthstone subscription
Where did the info come from? A Hearthstone player shared screenshots of a survey on reddit, which he claims to have received from Blizzard and filled out on the “YouGov” website.
The survey lists potential content that Hearthstone could receive with an update. The player is supposed to indicate which of these potential contents could motivate him to play Hearthstone while filling out the survey.
Among the listed contents are also various forms of a subscription that would allow players to receive cards.
Whether the survey actually comes from Blizzard cannot be confirmed with current information.
What is this possible subscription? The screenshots of the survey show four different subscription options. One of them offers the possibility to receive the best-performing decks for 3 classes at that specific time. The player can choose the classes himself. The subscription is listed in the survey with a price of $10 per month.
The four different subscription options shown in the survey are listed below:
- Monthly subscription (all standard cards for one class): a monthly price of $10 for access to all standard cards in a class of your choice
- Monthly subscription (all standard cards): a monthly price of $20 for access to all standard cards including the current expansion
- Monthly subscription (all standard cards): a monthly price of $10 for all standard cards except the current expansion
- Monthly subscription (top deck for 3 classes): a monthly price of $10 for access to the current top deck for 3 classes of your choice
“A ridiculously bad deal”
What do the players say about the subscription options? Players have different opinions on reddit regarding the various subscription options.
- Mateusz3010: “10 $ for just one class is a ridiculously bad deal (via reddit).”
- Cloudraa, in response to Mateusz: “On the other hand… 20 $ for all classes is actually quite good (via reddit).”
- LoopyFig: “240 dollars a year for a single game? […] To be comparable with other games, it should be around 60 $ a year (via reddit).”
- Fantast1cal: “A hell of a lot cheaper than now, and it would completely open up the game so you can play and experience what you want. The only people who think it’s a bad deal are those who aren’t paying anything (via reddit).”
While Hearthstone players in Europe can casually discuss possible new content and subscription services, millions of players in China currently have very different concerns – they are losing access to their accounts.
“God, that is so tragic” – Millions of Chinese players lose access to WoW, Diablo, and Hearthstone
