A 23-year-old Swede has achieved all successes in World of Warcraft (WoW). He spent about 900 days playing the MMORPG over the course of 6 years. However, he would not do it again.
On Reddit, the player Xirev announced his massive success: “I set a goal for myself 6 years ago. Today I achieved it.”
In an interview with PC Gamer, the Swede explains how everything played out.
It all started with wanting to ride faster
He was initially hooked by a simple desire: he wanted a faster mount. However, since Xirev did not have enough gold to buy one, he planned to unlock a faster mount through an achievement and thereby also obtain “faster riding.” Once that worked, Xirev got a taste for achievements. Then his guild fell apart, and he suddenly had a lot of time until the next expansion.
But it wasn’t the external circumstances that fueled his hunger for success, but the internal ones. What matters is how the 23-year-old Swede is wired, who is now starting his studies.
Because Xirev is a so-called “Completionist” – someone who must check off every item on a list and where every bar must be filled to the brim. He set himself the goal of unlocking all achievements in WoW – a massive task.
Engaged with every aspect of the game
In World of Warcraft, there is not just a massive amount of unlockable achievements – many of them are difficult to attain and require immense time and patience. The achievement system in WoW necessitates engagement with all parts of the game. With the continual evolution of the game over the years, this task is colossal. It is also not enough to just casually try these aspects. Many must be pursued to the utmost depths.
According to Xirev, some of the hardest and toughest achievements include:
- Finding all Rare Items on the “Timeless Isles” – as here you need mobs that have a very long respawn time.
- The Pet Battles were also challenging. Xirev says: “Blizzard should give you a T-shirt that says: I had to win 5000 PvP Pet Battles, and all I got was 10 achievement points.”
- The PvP achievements require, according to Xirev, quite a bit of skill. You really have to commit to slaughtering other players. Not only do you have to eliminate 250,000 opponents – you must also eliminate 50 opponents in your own capital city. Furthermore, no one raids capitals anymore. Additionally, you must achieve and maintain high PvP rankings over a season.
900 days of playtime for achievements
Xirev mastered all these achievements because he consistently spent every minute in World of Warcraft chasing one achievement after another. This required an enormous time investment. Instead of hanging around AFK like other gamers, Xirev was on the hunt for the next achievement.
The Swede has between 850 and 900 days of playtime – 434 days of which are on a Blood Elf Mage, Xirev, his main. He has 30 other characters at level 110 – two of each class and another 6 Mages.
Although other players have unlocked all achievements in WoW before him, according to PC Gamer, Xirev is the first to achieve this in WoW Legion.
When asked if he would do all this again, he says: “Honestly, no. If I could, I would just play games for fun. But I am just a Completionist and really have to stop myself from collecting things in other games outside of WoW.”
