Rank 6: Ranger – Swarmkeeper
Swarmkeepers are the nightmare of any game master. They summon not one single companion, but an entire swarm of creatures that can shred enemies. However, Baldur’s Gate 3 is getting a slightly toned-down version.
You have, according to current information, access to swarms of bees, jellyfish, and moths that have different advantages and can trigger status effects. The biggest advantage of the subclass is that both your swarms and yourself are hard to hit – except by area effects.
As a single class, the Swarmkeeper is already quite useful, but as a multiclass with other classes like the Rogue or Clerics, it becomes really strong.
Rank 5: Druid – Circle of Stars
If you find Druids too connected to nature, you should take a look at the Circle of Stars. Instead of a “Wild Shape” that turns you into a bear or wolf, you simply become a constellation.
With the new abilities, you can cast the spell Guiding Bolt multiple times per long rest without a spell slot and create advantages and disadvantages, as well as bonuses to skill checks.
The Circle of Stars mainly has a supporting function but brings, unlike many supporters, a decent punch.
Rank 4: Warlock – Hexblade
The possibly strongest subclass for Warlocks ever. You gain proficiency in medium armor, shields, and martial weapons. In addition, bonded weapons use your Charisma modifier instead of Strength or Dexterity, making you a real monster in melee.
Hexblades have access to spells like Blink, allowing them to teleport, and even some smite spells from the Paladin. The entire attack kit is designed for heavy hits and total destruction of the enemy.
If you want to be the face of the group and a melee fighter, but not a Paladin, the Hexblade is the ideal choice. With a lot of Charisma, few can resist you, and if they do, there’s a quick blade. This is especially useful if you’re planning an evil run since Patch 8 brings new evil endings.
