After the phenomenal finale of the first, years-long story arc with the expansion Endwalker, the developers of Final Fantasy XIV are struggling to build a new, comparably exciting plotline with the later updates of Endwalker and the launch of Dawntrail.
The launch trailer for Final Fantasy XIV – Dawntrail:
It is also criticized that the player’s character is no longer the center of the story in Dawntrail. And the many running and escort quests are annoying. All of this leads to mixed reviews, something we haven’t seen from Final Fantasy XIV in a long time.
The truth is also that Dawntrail has brought many great contents to Eorzea. The new job of the Pictomancer has excited many FFXIV fans, and also the first raid of Dawntrail is very well received.
Rank 2: World of Warcraft: The War Within

Similar to Dragonflight, The War Within is also a step in the right direction for World of Warcraft. MeinMMO demon Cortyn has a positive conclusion regarding the current expansion, and colleague Benedict Grothaus was also excited, he hasn’t had this much fun in WoW in ages.
One of the many trailers for WoW – The War Within:
However, the fun is dampened by some issues (keyword: guild banks), time gating of contents, and the absence of a highlight feature that can excite players similarly to the Order Halls and artifact weapons from Legion or the new dragon riding from Dragonflight. Warband and depths are great additions, but they do not drastically influence the gaming experience.
What stands out in the user score on Metacritic is that many players either give it a 10 or a 0. World of Warcraft continues to emotionally move the community even almost 20 years after its launch.
Rank 1: Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds
- Metacritic Score: –
- Steam Reviews (Overall): “Very positive”, with 88 percent positive reviews
- Steam Reviews (last 30 days): “Very positive”, with 88 percent positive reviews
As the only MMORPG from this notable group, Guild Wars 2 achieves a rating from the Steam reviews of the last 30 days that matches the (very positive) all-time tenor. The new expansion performs much better than the previous Secrets of the Obscure.
The launch trailer for Guild Wars 2 – Janthir Wilds:
The new regions, the wonderfully mobile war claws mount, or the home feature, with which you can creatively bring Middle-earth to Tyria, are praised. It is also cool that you can approach the new 10-player raid as a convergence event for 50 players.
Furthermore, many Steam users still praise the well-known strengths of the MMORPG: the accessibility for newcomers, the appreciation for players’ time, the beautiful game world, the multi-layered world events, and much more – and all of these things are of course also benefiting Janthir Wilds.
