While players await the announcement of FIFA 22, leaks about the new installment are continuously emerging. Here is a list of the leaks that have surfaced regarding FIFA 22 – along with an assessment of which ones could play a role in the FIFA 22 release.
What is this list about? FIFA 22 is still quite a distance away from its expected release in fall 2021. There has also not been an official announcement of the game yet.
However, even before the first proper trailer for the game has aired, leaks have already surfaced that hint at possible content for the game. These leaks are compiled and discussed here.
It should be noted that leaks are generally not official information from EA Sports. They can come from players or data miners, for example. Consequently, they should be taken with caution – all features from the leaks can be changed or may not appear in FIFA 22 at all. If you are looking for official information, you should check out the overview of the FIFA 22 release.
FIFA 22 – Current Leaks Overview
This overview contains leaks on various topics related to FIFA 22. This list will be continuously updated with current leaks.
Beta Leaks on Menu & Gameplay
This is the leak: The leak originates from June 23, 2021, and was primarily driven by the streamer KingLangpard, who shared several images from a beta phase. One of the images showed Kylian Mbappé in the newly designed main menu.
Additionally, there were some minor gameplay changes. For example, there is said to be a new player selection system for defending, where you can choose one of the three players closest to the ball by pressing the right stick and then moving the stick in the desired direction.
How likely is this? Whether the menus from the leaked FIFA beta will actually be in the finished game is questionable. The designs and graphics could only be placeholders that may look very different in the final product.
However, for gameplay, one could well imagine the player selection being revised. After all, this is a point of criticism that FIFA players have long noted. Whether it will be implemented exactly as described in the leak remains to be seen.
Leaks on New Icon Cards
This is the leak: Data miners discovered changes in the code of FIFA 21 in early July that could hint at new icon cards. This leak primarily revolves around the names of former footballers that we may see in the next FIFA installment.
The data miners have found the following names in the code:
- Mario Gómez
- Cafu
- Iker Casillas
- Wayne Rooney
- Robin Van Persie
- Alfredo di Stefano
- Luis Fabiano
How likely is this? Every year, EA expands the selection of icon cards for Ultimate Team, so it seems realistic that the existing icons might get additions in FIFA 22. However, some of the leaked names might not be the very biggest football stars. Whether and in what form these players will appear in the game remains open.
Leaks on New Special Cards
This is the leak: Could there be a new type of special cards in FIFA 22? This is at least what a potential leak claims that has been circulating on the internet, especially on Reddit. The talk is about a new type of icon cards that are supposed to bring famous former players into the game.
These “Icon-Light” cards are said to be assigned to their former clubs and, unlike icon cards, will not have any particular chemistry attributes.
How likely is this? The concept behind these supposedly new quasi-icon cards sounds plausible and interesting, especially since EA already introduced a very similar card with David Beckham in FIFA 21 Ultimate Team. So it is conceivable that these new cards could be included in FIFA 22.
Leaks on Weekend League
This is the leak: This leak also comes from the streamer KingLangpard, who reports that the new Weekend League in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team is supposed to include less than the usual 30 games. Additionally, there is said to be a weekly qualification, where you have to win 3 out of 5 games to participate in the Weekend League again.
How likely is this? Every few years, EA revamps the system for the FUT Champions Weekend League, so it initially seems realistic that it could happen this year as well. However, besides what KingLangpard claims, there are no indications regarding the new Weekend League.
So we remain curious and await official information.
Leaks on Release Date
This is the leak: Since July 4, a date has been circulating on Twitter, stating that FIFA 22 is supposedly set to release. The Twitter channel FUTZone mentions a release on September 24, 2021. However, it is not known where the channel got this information from.
How likely is this? It is likely that FIFA 22 will be released between late September and early October, based on the release dates of recent years. However, whether it will be exactly on September 24 remains to be seen.
