The Doctor
The Doctor in Dead by Daylight is reminiscent of creepy, insane scientists from old horror films. He can shock survivors with short jolts and thus increase their madness or injure them directly. Additionally, he can unleash a massive shock that affects all survivors in range. Thanks to the screams and heavy skill checks that mad survivors have to complete, he can particularly easily locate his victims.
Special Ability: Carter’s Spark – The Doctor can unleash two different types of shocks. The Shock Therapy unleashes a cone-shaped electric shock in front of the Doctor and has no cooldown. The Static Field, on the other hand, hits all survivors within the Doctor’s terror radius but can only be activated once per minute. When survivors are hit by either of these abilities, their madness level increases significantly, and they scream in panic, being unable to perform any interactions for a short time.
The madness of survivors goes through three stages and has different effects. Each time a survivor reaches a new madness level, they scream briefly and thus reveal their position.
- Madness I:
- Survivors have a 33% chance that skill checks do not appear in the center of the screen but rather at a random location.
- Madness II:
- Survivors have a 66% chance that skill checks do not appear in the center of the screen but rather at a random location.
- Additionally, a “ghostly doctor” occasionally appears, visible only to the respective survivor.
- Madness III:
- Survivors have a 100% chance that skill checks appear at a random position.
- Survivors scream every few seconds, revealing their location.
- The ghostly doctors can also be seen by the killer through walls and barriers, revealing the location of the survivor.
- Survivors cannot heal, repair, sabotage, search chests, or cleanse totems until they calm down.
Calming down is a continuous action in which several skill checks must be completed. Survivors do not need to perform the action in one go; they can pause in between. Afterward, the survivor is back to Madness I and must be brought back to Madness III by the Doctor again.
How to use Carter’s Spark correctly? The key to the Doctor is choosing the right moment to use the Static Field and Shock Therapy. Typically, it is sensible to first drive as many survivors as possible to Madness II or even Madness III before making a killing attempt. This ensures that the survivors’ skill checks are more difficult and they make errors more frequently. A few general tips for Carter’s Spark:
- The Shock Therapy and the Static Field can be used through walls. You can thus hit survivors you cannot see.
- Only use the Static Field if you are sure you have at least one survivor in range.
- Shock Therapy prevents survivors from passing through a window or sliding over a pallet for a few seconds. This allows you to trap them easily and hit them.
- There is a brief delay after using Shock Therapy before the Doctor can strike.
Who is the Doctor suitable for? The Doctor is suitable for both newbies who still have trouble locating survivors and advanced players who want to experiment with different addons. Thanks to madness and screams, it is easy to locate survivors, even though this isn’t as easy since the rework.
