The Shape
The Shape is better known to most as Michael Myers, the creepy mask-wearer from the “Halloween” films. In Dead by Daylight, The Shape starts off relatively weak but builds his strength during the match, gaining stronger powers as he goes. He is not called the “Jumpscare” killer for nothing, as he can sneak up on survivors without being noticed.
Special Ability: Diabolik – With the ability Diabolik, The Shape can “stalk” his victims. When they are within sight, their aura is clearly displayed, and the ability bar for Diabolik fills slowly. Diabolik has three levels. The Shape starts at level 1 and reaches new levels through continually stalking survivors.
- Diabolik I: The Shape is immune to survivors’ aura-reading abilities. He has a slightly reduced movement speed and a shortened range of the “strong strike” but almost no terror radius (6 meters).
- Diabolik II: The Shape has a still notably reduced terror radius (16 meters). His movement speed is now standard, as is the range of his strong strike.
- Diabolik III: The terror radius increases to 32 meters. Survivors are “endangered”, meaning they go down after a single hit. The Shape can climb through windows particularly fast. Diabolik III lasts for 60 seconds, after which The Shape returns to Diabolik II, and the killer must recharge the ability to trigger it again.
Survivors can hear the rise of Diabolik through a sound cue, usually accompanied by the suddenly increased terror radius.
Each survivor can grant only a certain amount of “Diabolik”. It is thus possible to fully drain survivors of their Diabolik, at which point their aura turns red.
How to use Diabolik correctly? The playstyle of The Shape changes during the match and as Diabolik progresses. If desired, you can stay in Diabolik I for a while without charging it with survivors. This way, you can sneak up on generators and directly “pull survivors off the generator” – this can be done with a quick attack if you are nearby (not a strong strike!).
Once you are in Diabolik II, The Shape resembles most standard killers, but only has a much smaller terror radius, allowing him to get much closer to his victims before they notice him.
The basic trick is to charge Diabolik II up until just before switching to Diabolik III. If the survivor is already injured, knock them down and hang them. Only when you find the next survivor should you suck the last bit of Diabolik from them to switch to Diabolik III. This can be especially rewarding when multiple survivors are clustered together. This can create a victory-bringing chain reaction.
Who is The Shape suitable for? The Shape is ideal for all players who enjoy scaring their victims to death and sneaking up on them. Diabolik allows you to turn a seemingly lost match around at the last second by knocking out multiple survivors.
