The Artist
Another killer created specifically for Dead by Daylight is “The Artist”. She is one of the few ranged killers who comes with full movement speed. She is capable of summoning crows that remain in place as temporary guardians and can then be shot off in a direction with a delay to reveal or directly injure survivors. Therefore, she moves at 115% (4.6 m/s), has a terror radius of 32 meters, and an average height.
Special Ability: Torment Crows – By holding the power button (default: right click), The Artist charges a summon. Tapping the attack button (left click) then summons a crow that stays in place for a while. Up to 3 crows can remain in different locations this way. When you summon a new crow, the remaining duration of the other crows is extended.
By pressing the “Active Ability” button, all summoned crows are activated. They fly off in a straight line and then disappear. In the first few meters, they injure the first survivor who crosses their flight path. After a few meters, the crows lose their ability to injure but can fly through objects (like walls). If they hit survivors in this state, the survivor is beset by a swarm of crows.
A beset survivor is shown to The Artist by an aura. If a beset survivor is hit by a second crow, they suffer damage.
The survivor can disperse the crow swarm using a new action but requires time to do so. Alternatively, the survivor can simply rush into a locker and will immediately shake off the crows.
How to use the torture birds correctly? The torture birds are quite versatile. They can simply be used as a tool for exploration to send crows flying in different directions towards generators. This allows for a quick check on whether survivors are currently working on a generator and where to go as the killer.
However, their true potential lies in the ability to temporarily block especially annoying “loops” for the survivors. If a survivor keeps passing the same pallet, you can simply drop a crow there and fire at the right moment. If you have multiple crows, you can thus cover a fairly large area.
Apart from that, the crows also have some “camping” potential. If you position the crows near a hook where a survivor is hanging and fire at the right moment, you can immediately mark the rescuer with a swarm of crows and rush him after the rescue action.
However, always keep in mind that the Artist has a high movement speed. It is often advisable to rather land a normal melee hit than to rely on the ability. Don’t overthink, as you can also quickly finish hunts on foot.
Who is the Artist suitable for? The Artist is perfect for anyone who wants to play a ranged killer with strong scouting abilities but doesn’t want to compromise on speed. Her ability is generally a bit weaker than that of other ranged killers, but this is compensated by her speed.
