The Nemesis
Fresh from the horror universe of Resident Evil, the Nemesis has arrived in Dead by Daylight. It brings disgusting tentacle attacks, a mutating virus, and zombies with it. With an increased range, the Nemesis can catch survivors even in seemingly safe places. The Nemesis corresponds in base values to the standard of most killers. It is quite large, has a movement speed of 115%, and a terror radius of 32 meters.
Special Ability: T-Virus – The Nemesis is able to prepare its tentacle by pressing the ability button. If the attack button is then activated, the tentacle strikes forward and hits the first target in a small area. If the target is a survivor, they become infected with the T-Virus and the mutation rate increases. If the survivor is already infected, they take damage and the infection rate rises.
The infection causes survivors to cough and wheeze, making them more noticeable and easier to find. Additionally, an infection ensures that the next hit with the tentacle strike can cause damage.
Survivors can heal their infection with vaccines that are scattered around the map in chests. However, these vaccines are limited – once used up, they do not respawn.
The infection rate of the Nemesis determines the strength and versatility of its tentacle strike. The differences are:
- Infection Rate I: The standard tentacle attack causes damage or infects survivors.
- Infection Rate II: The tentacle strike can additionally break pallets and destroyable walls.
- Infection Rate III: The range of the tentacle strike is significantly increased, and the slowdown during charging is reduced.
The infection rate never decreases, even if survivors heal their infection.
Additionally, there are zombies. When playing as the Nemesis, two zombies wander the map, attracted by sounds. The zombies are programmed quite simply and often get stuck on objects. If they catch a survivor, the victims become infected with the T-Virus, or if they are already infected, they take damage.
Zombies can never be permanently defeated, even though stuns or attacks from the Nemesis can temporarily kill them. They reappear after a short time. Additionally, survivors can blind zombies with a flashlight or similar effects. When blinded, the zombie is stunned for a few seconds, does not attack, and has no collision with survivors, allowing them to pass through.
If the Nemesis uses the tentacle strike on a zombie, it dies temporarily, but the infection rate of the Nemesis increases.
How to properly use the T-Virus? The correct application of the tentacle strike is quite simple. You should aim to infect as many survivors as possible. However, do not break off the chase. Once you reach Infection Rate II – usually after you have caught 2 survivors – you can destroy pallets with the tentacle strike.
Survivors have very few safe places left. Approach the pallet where a survivor is located without directly entering the stun range and prepare your special attack. Once the survivor knocks over the pallet, you can destroy it and save time. It is even possible to hit survivors “over” the pallet.
From Infection Rate 3 onward, you should prepare your tentacle strike early. The increased range helps you hit survivors even over objects. As long as you have direct line of sight to a survivor, and they are not completely hidden behind an environmental object (debris, crates, etc.), you can hit them.
Do not forget that you are a killer with high movement speed. You do not need to rely on your tentacle strike when a normal melee attack can do the job just as well.
The zombies are in most cases to be neglected. Experienced players can send survivors towards the zombies, but they are often too slow without addons to catch running survivors. It is worthwhile to eliminate the zombies that lie in your immediate path with the tentacle strike while the infection rate is still below level 3. This increases the infection rate. The zombie reappears after just a few seconds.
Who is the Nemesis suitable for? The Nemesis is primarily a must-have for any Resident Evil fan. However, the Nemesis is also quite interesting for a second group: beginners. The killer is quite versatile, has a relatively flat learning curve, and can catch even experienced survivors relatively quickly. This makes the Nemesis a good choice – whether for beginners or veterans.
