The Plague

The Plague is the first “religious” killer in Dead by Daylight and comes from a long-forgotten time. She uses the plague to infect survivors with diseases and transmit this disease to objects in the game world. Her stats correspond to the average of the killers, but she also has considerable ranged potential.

Dead by Daylight Plague title

Special Ability: Cleansing of Malice – The Plague can spray her greenish secret with her ability. Hit survivors become infected and are slowly affected by the disease. The disease progresses when the survivor runs, interacts with objects, or is hit by more secretions. If fully infected, they become sick.

A sick survivor vomits every few seconds and is considered “broken” – they then drop to the ground with a thud and cannot be fully healed. A fully infected survivor spreads the disease to objects (like generators) or other players that interact with the sick one.

The longer the ability is charged, the longer and stronger the stream of secretion.

Infected and sick survivors can cleanse themselves at wells on the map and will be fully healed in the process. A well used this way will be desecrated and allows the Plague to interact with it.

When the Plague uses a desecrated well, her ability changes for a certain period. Her secretion becomes reddish and no longer infects, but instead deals direct damage on hit. Thus, she gains a ranged attack.

Dead by Daylight Plague Face

How to use the Malicious Cleansing properly? Using the ability is relatively “Straight Forward” and has only a few points to keep in mind. For the “regular plague,” the following applies:

  • Try to use generators, totems, and pallets that you pass. Survivors must wait until the plague disappears or become infected when interacting with the object.
  • Try to get close to survivors to then spray a whole burst of secret at them. This way, with just one use of the ability, you can make a survivor fully sick directly.

If you have the improved “red” secret, the playstyle changes slightly:

  • Use short, controlled shots to hit survivors from a distance when they jump over a pallet.
  • “Spread” your secret during chases in open areas by wildly moving the camera left and right while spitting. This way, the shot covers more area and a hit becomes more likely.

That said, you should always weigh whether it is really worth it to swap the regular plague for the red one. Don’t do this if you have to break off a chase for it. A good time is right after bringing a survivor to the hook.

By the way: When the last clean well is used, all wells are cleaned, and the plague automatically receives the red secret.

Pro
  • Very strong even without addons
  • High potential for “chain reactions,” where multiple survivors fall victim
  • Multiple possible playstyles
Contra
  • Aiming with the secret requires practice
  • Needs time to improve its ability at wells
  • Some survivors simply ignore the sickness

Who is the plague suitable for? Anyone who had a fetish for boomers in Dead by Daylight and really finds survivors “vomit-inducing” will love the plague. The gameplay with the sickness is interesting and unique in Dead by Daylight.
