The Spirit

The Spirit is not only disgusting and looks like it has sprung from Japanese or Chinese horror stories, but it is also a killer for players who like to trick and outsmart their opponents. With its ability Yamaoka’s Haunting, it can traverse the map quickly and sneak up unseen or confuse survivors. However, the Spirit is somewhat slower than other killers but has a smaller terror radius.

Special Ability: Yamaoka’s Haunting – After a short activation period, the Spirit enters a ghost mode. Here, it can move very quickly and cover a large distance. While the Spirit is in ghost mode, its body remains at the spot where the ability was activated and continues to emit its terror radius.

During Yamaoka’s Haunting, the Spirit cannot see survivors. However, it can see their scratch marks and hear the sounds of the survivors.

Once Yamaoka’s Haunting ends or is canceled, the Spirit appears at the same spot, regains its terror radius, and can interact with the environment. It retains its movement bonus from the haunting for a short moment.

For survivors, it is not visually recognizable whether the Spirit is simply standing still or is currently using Yamaoka’s Haunting. If survivors are not within the Spirit’s terror radius, they will hear a faint rustling sound when the Spirit approaches with Yamaoka’s Haunting. The rustling indicates the direction from which the Spirit is approaching.

How to Use Yamaoka’s Haunting Properly? Yamaoka’s Haunting has several strengths but also some weaknesses. Mastering this ability requires some practice. If you follow these tips, the learning phase should be short:

  • While using Yamaoka’s Haunting, you have no collision with survivors; you can simply slide “through them”.
  • Use Yamaoka’s Haunting to quickly maneuver around barriers and confuse survivors.
  • If a survivor is behind a pallet, just stand still and wait. The survivor won’t know if you are just standing there or using Yamaoka’s Haunting. Most survivors will panic after a few seconds and slide over the pallet – that’s when you strike.
  • Use Yamaoka’s Haunting wisely. Since you cannot see survivors during the haunting, it is also a perfect opportunity for them to escape unseen.
  • You can creep up to a generator using Yamaoka’s Haunting, appear, and grab survivors directly “from the generator”.
Pro
  • Enables mind games that lead survivors to make unwise decisions
  • Can quickly cross a large portion of the map
  • Killer with high skill cap
Contra
  • Slower movement speed
  • Ability can also confuse the killer player
  • Only becomes really good through addons

Who is the Spirit Suitable For? The Spirit is the master of “mind games” and a great appeal comes from playing her in a way that confuses survivors into walking straight into the killer’s arms. Those who consider themselves clever and superior will likely find happiness with the Spirit.
