What’s going on? Season 3 of Call of Duty is celebrating its halfway point. It’s high time for the Mid-Season Update. MeinMMO shows you the details of the update, the content, and what the whole thing has to do with iconic action heroes from the 80s like Rambo. Here is the roadmap for the Mid-Season:
Cold War Season 3 – Mid-Season Update Details
When does the update come? The Mid-Season Update for Cold War is live and all content is available to you. Except for the new main quest in Outbreak mode – that will go live at around 6 PM.
How large is the update? According to the developers, you can expect the following update sizes:
- PlayStation 5: 10.3 GB
- PlayStation 4: 7.1 GB
- Xbox One Series X|S: 13.1 GB
- Xbox One: 8.3 GB
- PC: 10.3 GB
What about Warzone? The update for Warzone is also live. Get an overview of the content and patch notes for Mid-Season 3 in Warzone here.
When does Season 4 start? Season 4 is expected to start on June 16. On that day, the current battle pass of Season 3 ends – the last seasons have always used the last day as the start date for the new season.
CoD Cold War: Update 1.17 – Patch Notes / Weapon Balancing
What changes with Mid-Season 3? The patch notes are very extensive, and especially with the weapons, a lot has changed. Every sniper rifle and assault rifle in the game is getting an overhaul. MeinMMO shows you the highlights and thoughts of the developers on this. If you want to browse the patch notes yourself, here’s the link to the complete English patch notes – via treyarch.com.
Sniper Weapons: All sniper rifles have been overhauled. The developers pursued the following goals:
- To create a better competition between normal weapons and sniper rifles
- The sniper rifles should distinguish themselves more from each other and be unique
For this purpose, the “flinch” of the large rifles has been adjusted. This refers to the reactions of the character when getting hit. Particularly, the reactions during aiming (ADS) have been reworked, but even during aiming itself, the weapons now feel different. There were also extensive adjustments to the values and attachments of the sniper rifles.
Assault Rifles: The changes in the popular weapon class are also extensive.
- The headshot multiplier has been standardized – 5.56 ammunition: 1.4x / 7.62 ammunition: 1.25x
- Each assault rifle now has more “bullet velocity” – except the FFAR 1, which gets more damage
- Some adjustments in range values and attachments of some weapons
Light Machine Guns: The sluggish but powerful and precise LMGs also benefit from an increase in bullet velocity across the board. However, the bonus from special forces barrels for bullet velocity is significantly reduced.

Cold War: Update with a lot of love for zombie fans
What’s there for zombies? The focus is on the new and very first main quest for Outbreak mode. The zombie massacre mode gets its own big “Easter Egg” and sends the CoD zombie community on a search for new backgrounds of the undead threat. The story is supposed to be set between “Firebase Z” and the next big zombie map. The next round-based map is expected to come in Season 4.
The new main quest will be available to you starting from May 20 at 6 PM. Additionally, you will also be able to “fish” in Outbreak.
Important content:
- First main quest for Outbreak
- Fishing in Outbreak mode
- New world event for Outbreak (Orda Encounter)
- More collectible information in Outbreak
- Reworked Cranked mode for “The Machine” and “Firebase Z”
- Dead Ops Arcade with a new Silverback bonus map
- Content for the PlayStation-exclusive Onslaught mode
- More weapons in the mystery boxes
- Zombie-specific weapon balancing
Multiplayer gets new maps and event modes
What’s there for multiplayer? There isn’t quite as much for multiplayer, but there are a few new maps and modes included:
- Multi-Team Elimination – A kind of mini-battle royale (via GameStar)
- 6vs6 map – The classic Standoff
- Multi-Team map – Duga
- The new weapons AMP63 and baseball bat will come later in Season 3
- Modes – “The Hardpoint” (Launch) and “Rambo’s Gun Game” (next week)
- 12vs12 Moshpit will get more 6vs6 maps into the rotation
Especially the new map “Standoff” should be well received by many players. Cold War is somewhat behind in the number of its 6vs6 maps, and the addition of a popular classic like “Standoff” is expected to leave a positive impression.
Also exciting is the mode “The Hardpoint / Hold Slowly”. It is a mix of “Position” and “Cranked”. For kills and points, you earn bonuses, and when a timer expires, you will explode.
The action heroes of the 80s have something planned …
As another highlight, Call of Duty has been staging the introduction of new skins styled after action heroes from the 80s for some time now. Rambo and John McClane (Die Hard) are coming as operators into the game and bringing an event with them. As with the Eagle event at the start of Season 3, you will be assigned tasks with which you can earn cosmetics. There are 9 tasks each in Cold War and Warzone, and the event runs for 14 days, until June 3.
The new, action-packed operators, however, are not part of the rewards. You have to purchase the characters via bundle with CoD Points. Here’s how the heroes look in-game:
