Place 5: Samwise Gamgee
The good-natured and loyal hobbit Sam demonstrated an astonishing resistance to the Ring. After Frodo was apparently killed by the giant spider Shelob, Sam took the Ring to complete the mission of the Fellowship. While he felt the influence of the Ring, he was largely able to resist it.
This is partly because hobbits are naturally much more resistant to the Ring than, for example, elves or men. They do not place as much importance on possessions and power as the other peoples of Middle-earth.
Moreover, Sam was particularly peace-loving and loyal even for a hobbit. He was simply not interested in the power the Ring offered him. Therefore, it was relatively easy for him to give the Ring back to Frodo.
