3. X-Men 2
Release: 2003
As is often the case, the second part of a trilogy is the best, and that applies here too. The conflict between humans and mutants is raised to a politically higher level. The film does this really well, especially since many characters are in conflict.
How should one protest peacefully when the life of every mutant is at stake? The film poses this question and offers interesting concepts for a superhero film. The look of the first film is also present again.
2. X-Men: Days of Future Past
Release: 2014
X-Men: Days of Future Past wants to connect the old trilogy with the new prequel story. To do this, it uses Wolverine, who meets the young Professor X and Magneto in a time travel story. The combination works surprisingly well.
There is classic popcorn movie action. Magneto and Professor X philosophize about their views, and well-known and cool mutants showcase their abilities. All in all, the best film with the entire X-Men team, only beaten by number 1.
1. Logan
Release: 2017
After two rather mediocre attempts to make a Wolverine film, Logan was a great surprise. The tragedy of a character who has lost everything and must remember everything forever is fantastically portrayed.
A demented Professor X is brilliantly portrayed by Patrick Stewart and is the last connection to the old films. Hugh Jackman also gives possibly his best performance here after Prisoners.
The humanity of Wolverine is told through the little Laura. They share a kind of father-daughter relationship. The atmosphere feels like a post-apocalypse, and the last journey of an old Wolverine simply touches the heart.
Despite its harshness, Logan treats the character with the necessary respect and empathy, creating not only the best mutant movie but also one of the best superhero films of all time.
Are you satisfied with the ranking or do you think a film is in the completely wrong place? Let us know in the comments. With Deadpool and Wolverine, we can only hope that the mutants are introduced properly into the MCU. If you can’t wait until then, you should definitely check out the animated series: The new X-Men series is really good and reminds me of the good old days with Saturday morning cartoons
